Right, Sami - gently warm together in a small pan, not to simmer or boil, just so it all melts together.
  • Ooh nigellas chilli jam... I had a disastrous go at this myself for Christmas presents two years ago.. It never set so I tried boiling it up again and this time turned into toffee! Argh! never again!

Yule log looks great Allegra! :T

    Thanks :)

FWIW I think the yule log looks great :D and the Fire jelly looks fab too - very pretty.

  • Hey all

Not felt great this weekend, slept a lot yesterday and most of this morning, but have some more CFR success stories to report anyway!:)

Made Toad in the Hole again for tea yesterday, B tried it this time and said it was nice although he prefers a thinner batter - but that's quite a good verdict for him as he's a fussy git! ;)

This afternoon made brownies - deviated from the recipe a bit as only had one egg and it calls for three, so used an oz or two more of flour and a tblsp of golden syrup instead. The result was a more chewy rather than gooey brownie, but still lovely and chocolately and very yum!

Then for tea tonight I made CFR pizza - first time making anything with dough in a long time but it went well and B and his two mates really loved the result! Did 1/3 batch and made 2 large pizzas (topped with pepperoni on offer from Asda) and a cheesy garlic bread, absolutely gorgeous and they were devoured within minutes! :T Will deffo be making again, am already planning a batch of bolognese so can use the leftovers to make bolognese pizza, mmm!

Your Yule log looks very impressive Allegra :T - and Sammi I feel your pain, mine cracked too and looked a right mess, but it was very yummy all the same. :)

Off to bed now, Monday tomorrow... why does it have to come round so fast?

I made toad in the hole tonight, Venus. :D

Gosh, so quiet! As a totally random thing - if anyone's tired of the hummus/carmelised onion hummus/tomato hummus rotation, throw several olives in to a plain batch for a whole new (YUMMY) flavor. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I am terribly sorry for not following the latter half of the week planner - spent a couple of days going back and forth to docs then hosp with little one so everything just went to pot! She is ok tho - has a virus as a chicken pox leaving present but docs were baffled for a while as to what it might be :( Turns out to be a histamine reaction to fighting of the pox and another little bug she must have picked up. Her whole body is covered in rash and it keeps flaring right up hugely every couple of hours in varying places poor thing. She couldn't even see out of her eyelids at one point before they diagnosed it, they were just so swollen. My girls have never really been poorly apart from the odd winter sniffle - even tho eldest is almost 4 now! Even when they were babies they were rarely brought up milk (why waste good food, huh? :P ) So this caring for the poorly is all a bit new to me! :o

    Sorry that was way OT!

The lunchbox planner sounds fab and will try out recipes where and when I can x

I finally got around to finishing my orange cake, we need to scoff it quick now lol that'll teach me to plan baking around life a little better!
It looks fab, tastes fab (topping a touch bitter due to my silly posh marmalade, i did add about 10g extra sugar and a splash of vanilla bit it didn't hide it totally).
I haven't seen the method for the topping as it should appear so not sure if it was supposed to be a spreadable consistency or what but mine was very runny, I found I had to let it cool completely and then gently spoon it on in 3 stages, if I tried to do it too quickly it all dripped straight off and it hasn't set (was it supposed to?)

The cake its self has a lovely crumb and seeing as I baked it on thurday, is still pretty moist - I'm impressed! I've never done a cake with yoghurt in before.

    hello all :)

I was guided here by a very kind person and have been nosing for a few days. Time for me to come out of lurking and tell you that for lunch today I am going to try out the waffles and cinnemon syrup. (after fried egg and gammon left overs mind you ;) )

Shopping list will be done later using the wealth of information here. Thank you so much and thank you again Nuala for introducing me to this little hidden haven :)
