  • Thanks for that, but firstly they ONLY accept passport/drivers license; they won't accept my SIA License (you need to be 18+ for these) or MOD 90s. I will buy a passport as it's useful to have but it's just ridiculous.

If a shop's refusing to accept a PASS card you should complain to their head office and there's also a form on the PASS site to let them know as everyone's supposed to accept them. Like you say if you could use a passport anyway then it makes sense to get one - but it seems stupid that places are still refusing to take a nationally recognised form of ID!

Just because they can say it's alcohol free doesn't mean it has no alcohol. It can legally have less than 0.5%. They were right to ID you.

They should ID you when buying bread then, it contains alcohol.

Made the mistake of trying to put through vanilla extract on the self-service till. Who'd have thunk it was alcoholic?

My partner and I are 33 and my lil sis (26) said we had to keep our distance from her in Tesco cos she had ID and we didn't, and she didn't want to get accused of buying booze for minors :rotfl:
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

Well, I'd pretty much forgotten all about this, but after it happened, I emailed Morrisons customer services to explain what happened and ask what their policy was on ID checks and non alcoholic lagers. I wanted to be sure for the future, as I didn't want to be arguing with the checkout assistants if they were only following the store policy.

I have just received an email reply today (it's taken them 11 days!) and now I am angry all over again!! I just can't believe the tone of the email.

It starts by saying that because the non alcoholic lager is sited with alcoholic drinks it is their policy to treat it the same (fair enough - that's all I wanted to know).

But then it goes on to give me a detailed lecture on how they are "required by law to police the sale of alcohol and the law must be applied without exception" blah blah blah and they're sorry I'm not happy about it but they "take their responsibilities very seriously". The email ends with "we are unable to comment any further on this matter".

I feel like I've been told off for asking the question! It's so condescending

No they weren't. Shandy Bass has less than 0.5% alcohol and can be sold freely, without an alcohol license.

Guess what happened to me at the weekend? I was asked in 99p stores if I was over 18.... when I went to buy a can of Shandy Bass.....
