I know there is a serious point or 2 being made in this thread, but I just think that the UK is going ABSOLUTELY STARK RAVING MAD with stupid rules and regs.0

Hallowean, lots of people dress to decieve.
Ah, I get it now.
Under 18s dressing up in outrageous costumes to make them look middle aged so they can buy non-alcoholic drink.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister. All my screwdrivers are cordless."You're Safety Is My Primary Concern Dear" - Laks0 -
I was ID'd in Wetherspoons for my non-alcoholic kopparberg...
and also for party poppers in Tesco, even according to the checkout lady that was before the legislation that you had to be 16 to buy them had actually come in!
For alcohol in supermarkets I just offer ID rather than waiting to be asked, it just seems easier that way.0 -
Some of the Wallpaper paste at work makes the checkouts ask for ID checks...0

The stores have they're own rules, they may sound daft but no id no sale, it isnt the CO fault but any complaints should be directed at the stores HO,0

Can I just say thanks to the OP for sticking to her (?) guns and ensuring that a supervisor was called to remedy the situation? Far too many in the same situation would have just given up and let p155-poor service win the day once more.
Snuggles, you weren't wrong and shouldn't feel guilty. The law should be upheld, but the law is to refuse sales to the under-18s (or for their consumption). The Think 25 policy in many stores is a common sense practice because looks *can* be deceiving, and both companies and individuals can be heavily punished (though fines and loss of license) for mistakenly selling to minors. But refusing to sell a) non-alcoholic drinks b) to a clear adult is plain ridiculous.
Thankyou! I did think about just leaving it, but I really couldn't bring myself to accept such an absurd situation. If I had been buying actual alcohol, I would still have been very shocked to be asked for ID, but I wouldn't have made a fuss about it.
What annoyed me more than anything was that no matter what I said, the checkout lady just kept replying, but I need ID. If she had actually listened to what I was saying and then called the supervisor to check, that would have been fine. Instead, I had to make a big fuss before a supervisor came over, and I felt quite embarrassed about it all.0 -

But the OP is 38, and if the SA couldn't work out that he/she was not 17 or younger, then that raises some questions about the SA's suitability for her job. She could just as easily make a mistake the other way and end up in trouble.0
