Company fraudently changed my bank card details so payment would work..

Who has told you that this is correct?:Therefore that company is supposed to wait until I update my credit card details with new details.
So you DO owe them the money they took, you just don't like the way they took it.
If the payment they took was due AFTER your old card expired, why didn't you update your details BEFORE the payment was due?

I haven't got in touch with my bank yet as I am waiting on the company that did this to issue a statement saying they added a card to my account without asking me.
I do believe all companies are by law to notify a person that their card has expired and ask them to update the details - not to take it into their own hands to do so.I work a 45 hour week. 12 hours round trip every day.

Which law are you referring to exactly?
The credit card itself is just the physical part of a credit card account, when you set up a direct debit with a company you agree that they can take funds from the credit card account, not the card itself.
When the card details expire and new details are generated the company is fully within their rights to change the details so that they can continue to debit funds from the account.
If this were not the case anybody could sign up to a contract and then avoid honouring payments by having their card blocked as lost/stolen.
If you have an agreement to pay a subscription with the company which is still in date then I don't understand why you would be upset by them transferring the direct debit details to the new card?0 -

I think everyone is missing the point.
As of 09/10 I have a completely new card with new number and new expiry date.
This company that had my card details on file took the liberty of re-adding the card (as a new card on my account) and just changing the card expiry date.
Out of all that has happened how can it not be considered fraud to change my card details without my permission?
I mean it's my card and up to me to notify a company of what my new card details are - not for them to do it for me.

No, you're missing the point...Surely I'm right?
No. You will have given them a continuous authority to take money from your account. It doesn't matter if your card expires, your number changes, you cancel your card, close your account, move to another bank and change address.
The company is still entitled to get money from the account, and your bank is entitled to ask you to repay it.0
