Work travel problems...help!!!

Def. worth trying car dealers for a cheap part-x old banger they were going to scrap, alot of them don't have much sale value so dealers don't bother with them, you won't get a warranty etc, but they should keep you going for a couple of months. i.e. when I bought my car I part-xd my old one for it (for the grand allowance of £25!) and I know it would be scrapped, it was old, a bit beat up looking, the sunroof leaked and the heater didn't work, but I managed with it, it ran fine and it had an MOT. No way a dealer (or anyone really) would try to sell it on, but it had life in it still and a dealer would be happy to sell something like this to you for £100 or so, no guarantees or comeback.
But really, what's wrong between him and his mother that she won't lend him her spare car? He should sort this problem out and then she might help after all.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

And again, the person who said walk/cycle. Walking...its something like 10 miles to work, thats 20 miles round trip...that'd take hours and be extremely exhausting for my husband. And cycling isnt possible due to the roads, he has a bike from when he was on a different site and he has said he would be happy to cycle if it was a) closer (again 10 miles at 5 miles an hour or so on a bike is 2 hours each way and I think it would be around 15 miles once he had taken out the roads he could not use- motorways and dual carriageways) and b) the roads were better.
Just for information on behalf of the MSE cycling commuters, the average minimum speed for cycle commuting on open non city roads would be 10-15 miles per hour, not 5mph. So OH would be looking at an hour or so which if he worked shorter shifts would be cracking exercise.
hope you get it all sorted out. Id vote for the taxi option til xmas as a short term solution and have OH ask about work for lift shares or the bus home at 5pm to reduce the cost.0 -

It's likely that putting hubby on MIL insurance would invalidate the insurance as he'd be using it the majority of the time.
You should also make sure the insurance co. knows that the car is being used for travel to and from work, although that's usually covered, and if he drives it FOR work then check that is covered too.
Although there's probably a reason why that won't work either.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

If your MIL is dithering about lending her car, can't she drive her son for the two days?2014 Target;

I agree. I feel for you but you have been given lots of very good suggestions here and seem to brush them all off immediately without so much as a thank you to the people who are taking the time out to help you. I really cannot believe you do not know anyone at all that you ask for financial help from, especially since it's such a short term issue0

To be fair as someone who has no family and few people i would/could ask for money then it is possible
i agree with the rest of your post though0 -
Having read all of the thread, I wondered if there was an element of PND kicking in, but having been back over your previous threads and posts you took the same approach to suggestions in those threads. I really wonder why you bother posting asking for help.
You were very clear in your previous thread that many of your outgoings were non negotiable, in that either you weren't prepared to give things up or you couldn't. You're paying a huge amount in TV and mobile costs and to quote the old phrase you're living a champagne lifestyle on lemonade money.
According to the SOA you posted you were spending £100 per month in fuel costs which completely contradicts what you have posted here, to be honest with your car costs per month, you're almost better off with your OH getting a taxi https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/35198767#Comment_35198767
No practical solutions from me, I can't see that there is any point.Piglet
