And working odd jobs wont pay the bills, you ahve to have experience to even get tbhat sort of work, which he doesnt have. And when would he find the time :S0

Hi
You have had lots of suggestions and I can see why none of them are ideal but are any just about possible for a couple of months, to keep his job and reputation in work if nothing else. I think you have to rule out the possibility of getting a lift from the supervisors - it might not even be anything against your OH, just that the cars are full. So in that event what else can you do? It seems like you have to decide if you want to lose the full £800 and have your OH around at home or lose part of the £800 and have him working which may involve longer hours. If you are really lucky you might get a car sooner but I dont think you can rely on this.
Start with the positives - your best option doesnt work so what is the next best and the next best etc. It might not be ideal but it doesnt look like there is an ideal solution out there at the moment. Lots of things might happen between now and January that mean you could be slightly better off. I would have concerns that if he loses the shifts he wont get them back or he wont have a choice of good shifts as he is seen as troublesome.
For what its worth my picks from the options posted would be cycling or taxi travel. Neither are perfect and you might have to scrimp for the taxis but they wont cost him his job. I really do have sympathy for your situation but you need a different perspective on the problem: what can be done rather than why things dont work.
Good luck! The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0 -
I would have to be for less than £400!!!!!! We dont have £1000!!!! I have £250 in my bank and that is all!! We dont get paid for 10 days and even when we do we'll have around £100 to add to the kitty as this month we are getting the 2 weeks paternity my husband took when I had my baby- so thats a good 50% drop a week for those two weeks.
Im in Warrington, Cheshire. I have looked on all the sites I can think of, Gumtree, freecycle, ebay autotrader and a few other google found sites with no avail. Needs to be MOT'd and Tax'd for at least 3 months unless its allowed in the price.0 -

She goes through a tub and a half a week, so that means most weeks I have to spend £15 on milk for her. Then around 8-10 nappies a day, thats between 50 and 60 nappies, if you have ever bought nappoes, you'd know even the cheapest nappies are £5 for 42, so thats another £10. And thats without having money left for emergencies like needing Gripe water or medicines if she gets sick.
I just cannot see finding £13 each way 3 times a week so £78 actually, not £52....every other week he does 2 week shifts, and the other weeks its 2 week shifts. So it'd be £52 one week and £78 the next. Thats coming up to £260 a month...we certainly wouldnt spend that on petrol and insurance, we have to continue to pay our insurance premiums anyways.
And, the £13 is dependant on traffic...4.30-5pm on a busy commuter route, my husband is very often held up in traffic, so it could very well g o uo eveb more than that!
And you STILL haven't answered when pay-day is despite me asking you twice. You must also have the most energy efficient car I know if you are only spending £5-£10 a week on petrol!
If you genuinely cannot afford it then the only other option is the bus you've looked into,as each other option comes to at least as much lay-out as taxis. You also need to ring your insurance company and ask about the premiums as it may well be that you don't need to keep paying the amounts out.
What does your OH suggest he does in all this btw?0 -

In the short term £100 per shift minus £26 taxi fare leaves £74. Surely this is better than nothing coming in to pay your billsBe Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
the problem is when things dont work, they really dont work. I simply cannot afford £260 a month for taxis, its not a case of scrimping, its a case of literally been unable to find that money. And as I say cycling isnt an option. There arent enough hours in the day. Unless you want me coming abck in 2 weeks saying my husband was knocked off his bike as he was cycling along a dual carriageway in the dark at 6am when he'd had 3 hours sleep?0

its not the loss from the wages, if he was paid in cash on the day of his shifts, then it would be hte perfect solution, but he's not he's paid a month in arrears. So he works and a month later gets paid for it, so how am I meant to find this £26 per shift until we are paid IN 10 DAYS for the person who clearly cannot see when I am saying it :S0

my husband is the head in sand type. He doesnt know, he wont speak to his boss as he's worried he'll end up in more trouble as he has no date that he willhave a car or travel sorted. He doesnt knwo either, all he knows is what Ive said, he cannot walk nor cycle and taxi and bus are too expensive until we are paid IN 10 DAYS at leats, then it woulkd be more easy to get the money but still expensive and not ideal.0
