yes we'd be ok, not perfect, but ok doing it in 10 days, BUT for those 10 days we're losing money if he's not in work obviously. Meaning a low wage packet next month, this months is already tight as I already said earlier.0

Steph what will happen then when your OH can't get to work - that seems to be the situation to resolve now. If you need short term cash is there anything that can be ebayed or sold? I think someone mentioned the scrap value of your broken car and the premiums from the associated insurance policy. They must help top up the income a little bit. When you get the car next year will your OH be able to increase his hours again or does he have to start finding a more local job now?
Can any relatives lend you the taxi money until you get paid?
Your OH really should speak to his boss though - they might not be able to do anything but unless he explains the situation it sounds like he is throwing away his shifts as he doesnt want them from their point of view.
Again I wish you luck - probably cant add much more hereThe early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0 -
Hi Steph
On another page you said you've managed to get a loan for £250. Can you not use that for taxi fares for the next month?
Also, if worst comes to worst, you could call the water and gas / elec people and say you're making token payments for two months. (In addition, I will add that your utility bills are very high - you could get these down by changing supplier for gas/elec to help in the long term.)
I understand that you say you don't have the money for taxis or a car. But let me put this very simply (which you already know): he can drive, borrow a car, buy a car, take a taxi, take a bus, cycle or walk. There ARE no other options, so you can't say no to all of them!
If you need to raise money quickly, then perhaps you could sell some items on Ebay to raise taxi fares each week.
£52 a week is a big jump, you're right. But it's either that and get £600 pay a month, or get zero. Nothing.
I understand that you don't like any of the options, but no-one can suggest anything else because there aren't any other options. You have to find a way to make one of them work for you. Sell on Ebay, borrow from family, use the loan to pay for taxi fares, ask work for an advance on the fares so he can get there.
Best of luck.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
everything salable has been sold im afriad, we needed money for babuy things and everything was sold and spent. I have emailed a taxi company to see if they can do a deal with me if we pay upfront for 28 days worth of taxis to my husbands work, if they can give us some sort of discount, hopefully they will come back with a yes, maybe make the trips down to £10 per shift instead of £13, that'd mean £200 a month instead of £260 (i think :S lol), wich if we could hold off the gas and electric until after christmas with token payments wouldnt be too bad. We could use the £250 for an initial payment yes.
I ahve never heard of a taxi firm doing this sort of deal, but who knows.
if he cannot get to work himself, I think his boss will continue to pick him up for now, as often as he can, but he has a lot of work on himself as the other manager is off on annual leave. I think he will probably actually help him out, he's quite a nice guy to be honest, and dont think he would let him lose shifts, at the end of the day he'd have to find cover for him. Well I am going to see whast this taxi firm say, see ifg they can help, also still waiting to hear about borriwing his mums car.0 -
Hi Steph,
I've just done a search on auto trader for bikes within 10 miles of the Warrington area and there is a scooter for sale for £400 from a private seller.

I'm obviously not advocating that you purchase that particular scooter; however it shows that you do have some options available.0 -
He cannot ride a scooter without passing a test- a CBT or something like that...not sure what its called. Not even with L plates, so he'd have to pass this test I think it costs around £250 to do, and would require him take a day off work ironically to do it. We looked into it a while ago as we wanted to cut down on the cost of running a car as we only use it for commuting everything else we walk to or have deliveries/use public transport and things. A scooter would be perfect if he didnt have to pass this test to be able to ride one!!!0

I hadn't realised that you needed to take the one day course before you could go out on the road. I've just done a search online and found they changed the law in 1990. Wow, 20 years ago. I must be getting old. Hope you get something sorted anyway.
I'll get back to reading about Euler's theorem...0
