The working time directive doesnt apply to security staff (im one and i checked)
you say the only cars in your area are about £1000, where are you looking? Try the localpapers or the autotrader website as this advertises cars over a wide area and if he finds the right one surely your mum in law could take him to see/collect it . what area you inBe Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
£250 a month to insure him on his mother's car? That's insane.
Can he use the £250 that you have borrowed to buy a fold-up bike and use it to get to the nearest bus stop and bike the bits that the bus can't do?
i've just had a look on ebay and there are cars for sale at >£500 - that are apparently running - I don't know where you are obviously but it's worth a look.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
pathetic isnt it! He's had an accident within 5 yrs which was a write off whihc is why its so high! The car is only a 1.2 too, dread to think what'd be for a 2 litre one or higher!!!!!!
Its the bus times more than anything, I found that a bus does actually go to just a 10 minute walk from his building with one change, but it takes over an hour, and the times just dont tie in at all, they are at a quarter to every hour, (his hours are non negotiable due to the opening times of the office), so he'd be waiting 45 minutes for the bus in the morning, then an hour on the bus, its adding another two hours to his journey- when you work 15 hours a night, those 4 extra travelling hours add up would mean 5 hours at home to sleep, eat, and see his daughter. He'd be shattered, be no use to work as he'd be falling asleep lol.
I have honestly tried everything, but nothign is fitting in with his schedule and his boss isnt budging on his site, on lending a car or bending his hours!0 -
It's likely that putting hubby on MIL insurance would invalidate the insurance as he'd be using it the majority of the time.
ebay will have cheap cars, also get hubby to go round local car deals looking at cheap part exchanges, you just need a cheap running to last you six month to give time to workout what to do next - look for saloon granny looking cars - insurance tends to be cheaper on these
I'd also give up on the tv for the moment, save £11 and anything else not essential. Could you swap nappies for reusable's, ask on your local freecycle/freegle
Think you also need to get your hubby looking for alternative better paid work, could he spend any time at work learning new skills, could you look for a part time job - local shops?0 -
we need it only til December as we are inheriting my mum and dads then when they get their new one. And invalidating the insurance is something Im willing to do for 2 months til we're sorted out. Its onyl for going back and to to his work, and his mum would probs be having it back at weekends when he isnt needing it for work!
I also just gave birth, I have no family nearby to baby sit so would have to work at least 16 hours a week to qualify for childcare, and my baby is 5 weeks old, I dont want to leave her! Have you seen the price of reusable nappies!!!!!!! They're hundreds of pound for a decent pack size which lasts around 2 weeks. We looked into them before we had our daughter and weighed up disposables were cheaper. Freecycle have nothing like that, I look every weeka nd get the newsletter with all the new posts.
He is always looking for work, sadly there is nothing. He is also colourblind, so theres a lot of work he cannot do, he is trained in mechanics but cannot work in the trade due to the colourblindness- most companies wont take him on cause of it, personallu i see it as discriminating against a disability lol
its not really a money issue once he has transport sorted0 -
Unless MIL does agree, and I'm not convinced tbh by what you've put.I still think taxis are your answer. I think you're just so annoyed you can't see the wood for the trees. yes it's a lot £52 in faryes but what £20 of this would have had to be available funds for petrol money -leaving you £30ish to find, which you can do with help from people on these forums. It can't be for every single week as you've either just been paid for have available funds or payday must be coming up.
If you need £1300 for bills then surely you see that you can't afford for your OH to be down on wages?0 -
£5-£10 a week we spent in petrol actually so its 10 times what we spent on petrol...thats bug increase. £52 a week leaves me with £20 for baby things a week (until our wages come in), my daughter is on special milk to help with colic and a funny tummy which we dont get on prescription, which is more expensive, and I am not afecting my daughters health for the sake of daddy takign a private taxi to work. She goes through a tub and a half a week, so that means most weeks I have to spend £15 on milk for her. Then around 8-10 nappies a day, thats between 50 and 60 nappies, if you have ever bought nappoes, you'd know even the cheapest nappies are £5 for 42, so thats another £10. And thats without having money left for emergencies like needing Gripe water or medicines if she gets sick.
I just cannot see finding £13 each way 3 times a week so £78 actually, not £52....every other week he does 2 week shifts, and the other weeks its 2 week shifts. So it'd be £52 one week and £78 the next. Thats coming up to £260 a month...we certainly wouldnt spend that on petrol and insurance, we have to continue to pay our insurance premiums anyways.
And, the £13 is dependant on traffic...4.30-5pm on a busy commuter route, my husband is very often held up in traffic, so it could very well g o uo eveb more than that!0 -

Having invalid insurance is the same as having no insurance, get stopped by the police or worst have a crash then the police will come down hard. These sort of thing are quite rightly taken seriously by the police, personally I wouldn't risk with the tools used today.
Can you not try for a job on the two days your hubby is off, couple hours a day is better than nothing
Can you hubby look into using his mechanical skills to do odd jobs on a self employed basis0 -
my daughter is 5 weeks old. Ive not even had my postnatal check up yet and your suggesting I go out working leaving my daughter even for a few hours a day isnt something I want to be doing, nor agree should be done by a new mother.
Plus, i would literally be able to work from 3pm on a wednesday until 3pm on a friday as this is the only toime my husband would be home and not asleep after working.
And as I said, I dont want to work whilst i have a 5 week old daughter, she needs me at home.0 -
stephbond89 - What area are you in ?
I reckon that people on this forum will find you a car in your area for less than £10000
