help - cant get computer to switch on

i am getting the following message on my laptop:
windows failed to launch because the kernal is missing or corrupt
any ideas what i should do? cant even get into desktop

just pressed F8 and got various options- start normally , safe mode, debugging mode plus various others. I previously tried safe mode and start normally and none of them worked. Also tried putting in the windows disc but that didnt work either, any ideas what i should do? thanks0

^^Did it actually read the disc?? Bios setup to boot from cdrom ??0 -
not sure if it read the disc - something seemed to happen and screen is now blank, i dont know much about computers! any other ideas?0

i pressed delete but it didnt do anything. Its a medion laptop i am using - not sure if that makes a difference? thanks again0

i am managing to run a 'windows memory diagnostics tool' so far no problems have been detected, will update when has finished running0

just suddenly stopped at end of scan/update and went back to the screen that says kernel is missing or corrupt. Anyone got any ideas where to go from here? thanks0

it goes into a windows boot manager menu too that says 'windows failed to start, a recent hardware or software change may be the cause'0

the disc i have inserted is 'Medion recovery disc' is this the right thing?0
