bite the bullet and get a new hdd. Just got a 250GB from ebuyer, £30 delivered, so one tosuit your lappy won't break the bank. You need a 2.5" SATA one like this:-

It's very easy to change laptop hdd -look up your manual or google for it.
If you remove your hdd and note the make and serial no. you can often check makers site for g'tee as some hdd have 3 yrs- even check with the retailer.
If £30+ is acceptable don't bother with a small hdd.

do you think replacing the hard drive will fix the problems i have been having. When i tried to reinstall windows it wont let me, will that be the harddrive causing that problem? thanks again

    have you backed up recently?

if not download and burn of a Ubuntu CD (instructions on the site) then insert the disk in yoru drive and then boot up, it will then give you a few options however use the 'try ubuntu' option as this will run the entire operating system from the disk and your systems ram (no changes to your hard drive), plug in the usb hard drive and then back up your files - this might or might not work depends on if your hard drive is actually totally dead or just on its way out
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

got everything backed up on harddrive already. Is there anyway of using the external harddrive to get the laptop working again temporarily or do i need to order an actual harddrive? Also someone i know has been having similar problems to this. Could it be a virus? thanks again
