No, I wouldn't expect a child at school to pay for their board.Slightly bitter0

What do people think to this then ...
My sister is 17, lives with my husband and I.
She receives income support (£100 roughly every 2 weeks) but no other benefits.
I don't receive anything for her, we earn too much for her to get EMA, because she gets I.S we don't qualify for CB
She gets £200 every 4 weeks and we ask for £10 a week board.
Is this wrong?0 -

I don't think it is wrong for you to ask for board, because she is not your daughter, she is your sister and you do not get any benefit for her at all. I take it she is not in full time education, is she?
If anything, she is living very cheaply since she has £160 every 4 weeks to spend on herself.LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

Sorry, meant to say, she is doing 3 science a-levels at college fulltime
The £40 a month does come in handy ... She's a whippet thin teenager but eats like a packhorse!0 -
Sammy your situation is very different since you are not getting anything except the £40 a month from her.
Out of curiosity, OP, what about travelling costs? I know that most of the ones who got EMA last year at college spent it all on on travelling costs, even though they get so much of it back, it's not a lot. And then lunches ontop of that.0
