Anyone noticed when you check on-line on tesco's CS page, it says something along the lines of 'if a special offer product is out of stock we'll give you a voucher to use the next time you're in store'

does this mean you pay the equivalent of the product? ie) if there's a BOGOF on lemonade, do you give the CS person the 50p it would've cost you to purchase the offer, or do they just GIVE you a voucher out of the goodness of their hearts?

The voucher details the offer, so the next time you are in you can get the same deal. In case the offer has ended in the mean time. The voucher has no cash value.

Typical all these tvs coming up misspriced and what happens. The car breaks down and I can't get anywhere.
  • just to clarify is it best not to use your CC and clubcard for high purchases such as TVs when doing r&r?

carrying £500+ cash for a TV is not always easy

Yes use cash & no clubcard, that way you cant be traced. If you use a clubcard to buy anything then check tesco on line in your favourites it will show everything you have bought.

This is Mr T's of checking up on you and your spending habbits. Basically its up to you to decide what is best a few clubcard points or a free item?

I've asked for these before - you have to go to CS and they give you a piece of paper (like a till receipt) detailing the offer (eg bogof) and then next time you go, even if the offer has expired, you give your voucher to the till operator and they will adjust the price you now pay to match the offer.

I did it with a pineapple (so to speak!) that was on BOGOF but there was only one on the shelf, so I got a voucher that said I could have the BOGOF next time, so when I went back, I bought 2 and the checkout superviser over-rode the till to give me one free, even though the offer had ended.

They don't seem to advertise these much, but CS will gladly give you one if you ask.

Hope this (rather long-winded) explanation clarifies matters!

If you are wanting a refund on a £500 pound item and have paid by cash, CS might say they've no money in the till. Unlikely but it just does serve to draw attention and in my experience, less attention means lots of visits to do it again :D

Personally I would use your CC who these days pays for such a big transaction with cash, I have 4 CC's so will spread them around a bit, I have no intention of using my Clubcard though, as that is a sure fired way of them tracking your purchases and refunds.
Think of the number of transactions they make on a daily basis, and the number of r&rs they do, its a lot easier to spot repeat offenders in the r&rs if you give them your details, clubcard or name and address.
If they ask for your name and address your not entitled to give it, if they are happy to take your purchase without that information they should be happy to do so with the refund. This type of tactic is used often in retail, return receipts being printed with name and address details. Either refuse or put a fake one down.
    I had a plan..........its here somewhere.

Got my first R&R last night, CS was very pleasant. I acted all surprised when she offered me the goods and the refund, and thanked her generously.

She gave me a lovely glowing smile as I walk off, as though she had done her job well, as I had mine!!!

I was still in my work clothes last night, so was suited and booted, I wonder if clothing has a significant difference when claiming r&r's. Sales is the name of the game if you look professional are you less likely to be challenged by the CS. As this is only my first and it was for only £30, I am only at the beginning of a lovely trip courtesy of mr T, so would bow to more exerienced site members.

Must say when I first started I was in jeans etc and had some funny looks, now go suited and booted after work and alwways presented with a pleasant smile even though I only go for the big stuff £50+. I now pay cash as well and look all surprised.
