Congrats on the mortgage, that's brilliant news!
We've got to rewire our house room by room too."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee2 -
morning
one of my parents have paid me so I've sent it straight to the savings we have £3673.22 and I've still to put the house keeping money in there too as hubby didn't get in from work until 10pm as he was determined to get a customers van ready. So I'm nearly at my £4k target already but I think I'm just going to continue to save at the same rate that I have been doing as I also have a bedroom to be rewired and replastered and decorated and furnished etc as when one of the boys move down the want a double bed and they need a desk and drawers, no doubt this will be from ikea as there furniture is very sturdy plus i need the loft hatch opened up and have a new cover put on it as mine is just wood and I've already had a quote for this for £250 this includes the hatch and ladders which would please hubby, no more humfing the big ladders out the garage and up the stairs. Plus I would like the back garden or the driveway done this year too hopefully without any loans etc
Finish work at 4pm today so as usual workout then disinfect my downstairs within a inch of its life then I need to collect the avon books from our elderly customers who don't have social media or whatsapp.

Brilliant deal on the mortgage! I suppose it's decent that you've got a low monthly payment and option to overpay. It means if your circumstances change, your actual commitment is lower. And as you say, when you come to remortgage again, your term will shoot down. We still have a 27 year term on ours but once we have finished paying our extension costs, we'll be hammering down the mortgage as much as possible to slash the term.
Love that you do a huge shop every couple of months - does it make a decent difference to your overall costs or is it just convenience?Sealed Pot Challenge 075

I find it keeps the costs down and its very convenient that we don't need to visit the shops as often especially now as I'm now starting to get the fear of going out to the shops as the amount of people who don't sanitise their hands, wear masks or clean the trolleys and baskets is frightening xxHomegrown0 said:Brilliant deal on the mortgage! You're right, it's horrifying. I'd say in the time it takes me to wipe my trolley and sanitise (not long, I'm pretty efficient), at least 7 or 8 people walk by me straight into the shop without even looking at the cleaning station. It's a worry. Glad it's got multiple benefits - we've tried replacing fresh with frozen stuff and there's some things we don't mind compromising on and some things we prefer fresh. It's too much of a headache for me to work out
Food for thought though.
Also, I didn't reply about your gran. I'm sorry she's still in the hospital and you've not got any answers yet. I find the not knowing the worst part. Mine is likely to be in for another week at least - multiple issues that they're trying to sort out. It's such a horrible time having a loved one in hospital and not being able to see them.Sealed Pot Challenge 075

I have items I would prefer fresh such as chicken and steaks but I get those from the butchers when I want I’m the only one that eats fish in the house so I don’t mind fresh or frozen tbh. Obviously bread and fruit are fresh too, don’t mind frozen veg xxNEXT TARGET: Halifax credit card DEC 22 £0 / £4499.12POAMAYC 2011 £6378.35 POAMAYC 2012 £5000.78POAMAYC 2013 £3480.04 POAMAYC 2014 £4085.14POAMAYC 2015 £7565.24 POAMAYC 2016 £8000.90 POAMAYC 2017 £7278.80 POAMAYC 2018 £13208.18POAMAYC 2019 £13309.28 POAMAYC 2020 £15026.053

morning
hubby paid me house-keeping so sent it straight over to the saving fund I have £3823.22 in there........will be hitting my target next week.
have uploaded my self employment documents and hubby's wage slips to Halifax although I think the mortgage advisor has made a boo boo as he was asking about working tax credits which we do not get but he's put an amount down in that section. Told him he was wrong and gave him the figures but with tax credits its all guesswork as I won't know of these changes until June/July as that's when the renewal paperwork all starts.
Actually starting to think they might extend the term again as it went from 15 years to 16 years then to 23 years and then to 24 years and I don't know why its giving me anxiety as I know I'll be paying the 10% allowance of overpayments per year and cutting the term down drastically, just feeling a bit bummed that I've worked so hard to get the debt nearly gone as we have the car, hubby's bike finance and his credit card but its so small compared to where we were when we took out the mortgage. Plus I have nearly 4K in savings yet this doesn't seem to be taken into consideration. I'm waffling I know but I'm now worried this is all going to fall through and I'm stuck in this stupid expensive mortgage at 5.38% foreverNEXT TARGET: Halifax credit card DEC 22 £0 / £4499.12POAMAYC 2011 £6378.35 POAMAYC 2012 £5000.78POAMAYC 2013 £3480.04 POAMAYC 2014 £4085.14POAMAYC 2015 £7565.24 POAMAYC 2016 £8000.90 POAMAYC 2017 £7278.80 POAMAYC 2018 £13208.18POAMAYC 2019 £13309.28 POAMAYC 2020 £15026.053 -
Even if they extend the term you can overpay and then possibly shorten the term in a few years. Fingers crossed it goes through.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4

I'm sure you won't be stuck. Here's hoping anyway.
Of they've said yes so far then hopefully it's just the paper exercise now. You have done amazing and they'll see you have been paying things off.
