I'm sure your modem will give out IP addresses starting with 192.168.1.2, and increment this with every new device added. So as long as you pick an IP address for the router say up at 192.168.1.200 (largest value can use is 192.168.1.254) you are unlikely to have any problems.
Couple more questions:
1. Were you able to connect to your wireless router and give it a static IP address?
2. Have you been able to connect the modem through the LAN ports of the router and still maintened internet connection?

Can anybody please confirm if "3-Com Wireless Router Package £29.91 at Staples" will work with Telewest cable modem?
Many thanks,
Rick0 -
It might be possible but will take some fiddling. I know telewest presents a public IP address to the PC.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

Most of these packages are *ADSL* so will NOT work with Blueyonder.
If you want a *DSL* router recommendation mine is the Linksys WRT54GS which is flawless - Morgan Computers sell them very cheaply.
Alternatively there is a Netgear TA612V going cheaply in Staples.0 -

According to netgears website this is a voice adaptor, not a router i.e for VOIP calls0 -
Sorry, did not mean to quote ricklondon, only reference to the netgear TA612V

Got one Netgear DG834GT today. It didn't come with Phone line cable and filter, so I'll be returning it tomorrow.0

Actually the Netgear website describes it as "BROADBAND VOICE ADAPTER WITH ROUTER AND 2 PHONE PORTS"It's a Router and Firewall Too
Use the TA612V to conveniently connect your computers to the Internet. A true firewall secures your network against hackers: Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) and Denial of Service (DoS) attack prevention averts potential threats by scanning incoming traffic and Network Address Translation (NAT) shields your network devices from intruders.
