You could always knock on doors a raise a petition to have them removed.
In Colchester the council installed speed bumps in one part of town, then had complaint after complaint about the boy racers going as fast as they could over them to see how far they could fly.Never Knowingly Understood.

Ah, but what they like to do around here is lower the road immediately in front and behind the bump, so that it's ok measured from the road level but you have to drive down a dip before hitting it. There's one in particular which almost everyone scrapes their front bumper on“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Next time you hear that your anti roll bar bushes are knackered, you have speed bumps to blame.
Anti roll bars are designed to be free (or almost free) to rotate around their mounting points. If both wheels move up and down together, the roll bar offers no resistance. If one end is held still, the bar causes an additional resistance to motion at the other end.
So the effective suspension stiffness in roll (one wheel moving up/down) is higher than half the total stiffness in bounce (both wheels moving up/down together).
The only time high forces are applied to the roll bar bushes is during cornering or independant wheel movement.0 -
I knocked the exhuast hard on a Honda Civic I had years back ona private car park hump, as it was smooth all the way along but in the middle was higher than everywhere else!
Got no where and as I scraped the car, I gave up!
I'd contact your council and appeal0 -
nearly every street and side road where i live has them, the council refuse to plough the road when its snow covered as it has full side to side sleeping policemen, when they lay salt down there no grip under the wheels when driving over them at any slow speed and some are on bends, you can see where the kirb next to them has tyre marks on them from scuffing the curb due to no traction because of all these speed humps in my area the bus companies and taxis has put up their fairs due to excess wear and excess fuel consuption. when they have pot holes in them the repairs are diabolicle on speed hump constantly catches the underside of busses and front of bumper no matter how slow you go, you could go at a snails pace and youd hear your bumper and exhaust make a horrid noise with the floor hit it at 10mph plus and you smack the sump some have even gone over that quick there bits of number plate and plastic trim and oil over the foor i have had a spring on my old fiesta snap going over one that was scary as the jammed inbetween tyre and hub and had no means of turning the car stearing. the square single ones i hate as i suffere woth back pain and evertime i go over one it feels like my spine is going to drop out my bum hole!0

As a cyclist can I add that I utterly loathe speed bumps of any description. They do not improve my safety.0

I remember seeing a speed bump in Gipton (Leeds) where apparently all the boy racers had scraped the underside of their car.atrixblue.-MFR-. wrote: »the square single ones i hate as i suffere woth back pain and evertime i go over one it feels like my spine is going to drop out my bum hole!0

Are you receiving any treatment, or at least seeing a doctor, for the knees? It might be worth complaining to the council that this is adversely affecting your help. Probably works best if you can get your doctor on side.
I'm 100% with you on this one. I have back problems and the lack of speed bumps at my current address was one of the reasons why we chose them. Driving over a typical speed bump at any speed below 35mph is very painful for me.I remember seeing a speed bump in Gipton (Leeds) where apparently all the boy racers had scraped the underside of their car.
How do you know it was boy racers? It could just as easily have been something like my dad's old Mini. At my old school he used to have to drive with two wheels in the playing field, tearing up the grass in winter, and hanging the exhaust in the gap between the speed bump and the curb.0 -

4 knee surgeries (1 left, 3 right), mild onset of oesteoarthitus and generally a fair degree of pain! (had the bad knee's a long time)
Thats why i drive! i can't walk very far and it's not bad flat, i'm fine with but i'm at the top of a hill and walking up it takes some flipping effort!
I rang the council and asked them to contact me regarding why the speed humps have been placed there. I thought if i start with that as it will be easier if i choose to apeal against them if they don't have any reason for putting them there (opposed to 105 accidents every day lol)I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0
