Or alternatively, car owners could think about potential road conditions and speed bumps when deciding whether to lower their cars and/or fit low slung bodykits and exhausts.

Funny. I have one responce. MUD FLAPS lol
My mum drives a saab and her mud/snow flaps do nothing but scrape everytime she hops over a spped hump, and my poor little old corsa is a none modified one (i don't have enough money for that or have enough chav in me) lol:rotfl:I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -

Oo-er, I could say it depends on the 'length of your flaps' ......but I won't.
My Astra H also has mud flaps front and back, but they aren't too long, and never scrape on speed bumps - but then again, I tend to ease off as I go over the full width bumps anyway.0 -

You can't argue the fact that if what the majority here say, ie, "It's fine if you take them slow", then they are an imposition of a lower speed limit at that point in the road.
And yes, it's a great feeling when you slow to 20 in a normal car only to have some chelsea tractor full of brats running late on the school run, overtake you on the speed bump at 40:eek:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
At lease my mother doesn't have to worry about her flaps anymore

What about old classic and specialist cars?
If somebody spends a year building one of these in his garage, he doesnt want the local council putting 6 inch speed bumps at both ends of his street.....
He pays his taxes and he has the right to enjoy something he's put blood sweat and tears into!
Yes I own one and let me tell you that the choices are either all four wheels on the footpath OR end up balancing precariously with all four wheels off the ground and a queue of angry motorists 2 miles behind you!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Cars are in the end, only expensive tin boxes that enable us to move around faster. You can damage them - and you can repair them. Of course that is expensive.
I too hate speed humps - I drive a rackety old car (all that I can afford) and I have to drive it carefully because I cannot afford to spend more than I can budget for on repairs. I live on a wide straight residential road with a 30 mph speed limit. Young men turn onto this road and accelerate along the straight mile, whilst children play in front gardens and on the greens outside their gardens.
I would welcome speed bumps installed along this road rather than experience the fear that one day, one of the young drivers of these expensive cars hits a child who has gone into the road to retrieve a ball or who wobbles out on a bike. Speed kills children - speed bumps damage cars. Big difference.0 -

Then complain to your respective council instead of venting on an internet forum.
While I obviously can't comment on your own individual streets/estates, I know that if there weren't speed bumps on the estate road going around our estate, it would be like a race track.
The speed bumps/humps are there to do a job, and they do that job well on our estate.
There aren't any on our actual street, but there isn't a speeding problem (yet) on the street either.0 -

I agree completely that speeding in area's where children may be present is highly dangerous and irresponsible. I'll stand here all day throwing a torrent of abuse at anyone who disagrees with that.
But I do also think that in this and MANY other things, parents need to stop looking for someone else to blame and looking for the easy way out instead of properly educating and supervising their children!
It doesn't take much to teach a child the dangers presented by roads and traffic, but it strikes me that many simply can't be bothered.
I knew the dangers from a very early age, as im sure the rest of us did.... When your child is lay dead at the side of the road it's too late to start being a good, responsible parent isnt it?!?!
Blaming the local council for not putting speed bumps in won't bring your loved ones back....
We blame computer games for being too violent AFTER we buy them for our kids.
We blame social networking sites for allowing our children to be bullied and abused when we should be the one's vetting what our children see and hear and do online.
We love to blame other people so that we don't have to be responsible parents!!!!!!!
People need to wake up to their responsibilities!!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
