That's just what came up when I checked out the website. £81 in taxes and something called the Award Fees First Passenger that added £100. I'm not sure if this is me doing something wrong but that's just what I got.

As for the BMI card I didn't even need to quote my Diamond Club number the second time I think. They seemed to just notice my name and credited my current account. But I'm sure quoting your number helps. Good advice on lowering the credit limits. I'm a bit nervous what this will do to my credit rating but I don't plan on getting any new bank accounts, credit cards or mobile phones soon. I might be looking for a mortgage soon but surely this wouldn't badly affect that?

guys, I would be very interested to hear more from people investigating this offer - I just phoned AA rewards and they didn't know anything about a AWARDS FEE FIRST PASSENDER of £100. Perhaps what you saw was the fee of around $US150 for trying to make a booking within 21 days of your flight.

I went into the system and went through the process of making a booking for ONE PERSON for late February next year and you simply have to pay standard taxes/fuel levy etc which totalled only £42. Of course it also showed that I needed 45,000 miles but that's obviously because I don't have the exclusive access to the reduced mileage area.... don't know how that works??

Anyway, I asked AA if the fee might relate to making a booking for TWO people (hence the awards fee FIRST passenger but she said no, again suggesting that maybe the person was making a booking for within 21 days.

So, it all seems pretty legit - simply spend £1000 before December 31st and you've got a return flight to the USA for about £40-50 (taxes)!

I want my wife and I to both get these cards and then use the free flights for our wedding anniversary in Feb but it's going to be a tough call if we spend £1000 EACH before Dec 31 hence the Paypal trick might come in handy!... still we have a couple of big purchases (new TV) to make in the coming month so we might make it.

good luck and even if you miss out on the bookings after gaining the miles you still have them for next time.

will only be able to tell you about the paypal thing for the BMI when my statement comes ....but i would start doing all your spending on the AA so you do not have to rely on it.

also get signed up to the Airlines news letters/ emails and clubs ect as fall back in case you miss out . The AA one has some very good offers if the weekly email is to be believed . BA and Virgin too

Sunday Times travel section is also a great place to look also for these .

where are you flying to in feb ??

MBNA sent me a letter saying they were cuuting my current BMI cc limit by half because i have applyed for anthor card . got a pushy phone call today saying they are giving me about half of my old card as my limit on the new card and would i like to purchase some PPI.(no thanks i,m not intending running up a balance )

if this works i will cancel the oldest one move the unused credit to the new one and repeat the whole process all over again in a few months. anthor trip to Vegas on the cheap will be very nice

lets see if how long it takes after i get to get thoose miles in my current diamond club account . then just the small problem of spending them .

My Citi AAdvantage Gold card arrived today. No mention of the 'fly to the USA for 20,000 miles' offer, though. 10,000 miles have, however, been credited to my AAdvantage account. Will definitely have to print off the page from their website!

  • Hi there,

Due to a mix up with MBNA through no fault of my own I have now recieved two credit cards, one BMI blue card and one Platinum card. Called MBNA who said it is no problem to have two cards and activated them both. However when I called the BMI diamond Club line to get my membership number they said I had two card registered on their system but am only allowed to have one. They said I would have to call MBNA and cancel one of them?

I don' t see anything in the t & c stating only one per person.
