That sounds amazing, and very surprising. I think I'll have to give it a go, though I'm rather hampered by the number of cards I currently have so it might have to wait for a while.

Presumably they are not saying they will necessarily aprove you for 5 cards even if it is technically possible. If you have 2 already I imagine it will be hard to get a third without deleting one of them first. Lowering the credit limits might help.

how did you get the £181 figure for NY?

That's just what came up when I checked out the website. £81 in taxes and something called the Award Fees First Passenger that added £100. I'm not sure if this is me doing something wrong but that's just what I got.

As for the BMI card I didn't even need to quote my Diamond Club number the second time I think. They seemed to just notice my name and credited my current account. But I'm sure quoting your number helps. Good advice on lowering the credit limits. I'm a bit nervous what this will do to my credit rating but I don't plan on getting any new bank accounts, credit cards or mobile phones soon. I might be looking for a mortgage soon but surely this wouldn't badly affect that?
  • Im afraid this is getting a little fuzzy for me (sorry - its friday, im not concentrating :) )

Me and my partner want to fly to Dallas from the UK, and I have no qualms about applying for cards. What would be the best way for me to do it? (I do have a paypal account, so I can process the money that way if necessary).

the online application asks for your diamond club number if you have one Chris so no problems with getting that info to them.

    Okay to recap for sniper.

BMI card :- you get 20,000 diamond club miles for applying and being accepted for card and making one retail purchase (any value). Dallas will cost you 45,000 miles (plus about £5 taxes) or 25,000 miles + rest in cash (about £155 i think). so you would need to gain extra 5000 miles for that Dallas flight on top of your free miles to be able to use them for USA. unless of course this multiple cards and miles can be achieved by yourself. have been some negative posts about limted availabilty of diamond club seats ect .

AA card:- you get 20,000 American Airways miles for applying being accepted and spending £1000 in retail purchases before 31.12.2006.
20,000 apparently gets you a free return flight to the states ( no one has yet posted a succesful booking as far as i,m aware as yet )

spending the £5000 on the BMI on ( i.e 1 point per mile) or the £1000 with AA is retail purchases only !! so dumping deposits into Online casinos and poker sites with your card is considered a cash advance and does not count towards miles. same with Balance Transfers and CC cheques

Paypal may do ( watch this space on the BMI) but Paypal charge a whopping 3.5% for transactions so you could quickly wipe out any savings !!!!

if you have some BIG xmas purchases and can meet the spending requirements then it will cost you nothing to amass the miles . providing you a) pay your balances in full b) avoid card fees. ... as you would have spent the money anyway.

hope this helps your choice for you sniper:beer:

watch this thread and i,ll keep you posted on how i get on ;)

  • Many Thanks! ;), although one question
Dallas will cost you 45,000 miles (plus about £5 taxes) or 25,000 miles + rest in cash (about £155 i think)

Is that for both of us or just me?

I applied for the Citibank AA card just over a week ago. Today, I got my confirmation letter and PIN sent through (separately). Checked my AAdvantage account to see it has been credited with 10,000 bonus miles. Card not yet received, though.
