I agree BB and Victory - it's something that anyone suffering food issues has to deal with or factor into their weight loss journey.
Most of us are on a long term journey (and have been for sometime) - and we all have things that make it difficult for us - whether it's a food, health, emotional or other issues.
Once we've had a bad day the guilt monster comes because we all know we shouldn't have done it, should have been able to close the stable door before the horse bolts so to speak. Most people tend to focus on the negative days rather than to positive days and making yourself feel bad means the emotional side kicks in and you are likely to do it again.
It's a very individual journey that we all make with everyone having different triggers and issues. We all have to learn what works for us - and that process can be trial and error - you have to learn from the errors and try not to let the guilt monster win.
Puds - try to keep a diary of how you feel each day and what you're eating is like - it might highlight a trend of what maybe triggering things.
You did a really good thing getting your friend to confiscate the first box of biscuits. What you have to try to work out is what triggered both the purchases and why you were successful in avoiding eating the first one.
We're all supporting you and can see good in you - so please be kinder to yourself
We are our own worst enemies - I challenge everyone to write down a list of things they like about themselves and things they don't - the list of things they don't like will always be easier to write and longer.
The truer list could be one made by an honest friend, but having the bravery to ask someone to be totally honest is very hard.0 -
Victory - you always have such wise things to say and a very nice way of saying them. I am sure you will find another job with nicer people and less stress. I am glad you are quitting at last. Also good luck with the change to SW I hope you are finally doing it for yourself and hope you are feeling better x
Brightonbelle - I loved what you said too, about beating yourself up will make you do it again. I have been there in the past too feeling guilty about eating something so eating biscuits to take the pain away then the circle starts again. Luckly now I hope I have this side of my life under control and pray I never let it out of it's cage again.
Puddings - I think enough has been said so I just wanna give you a hug too ((HUG))
Betty - Glad you had a nice Birthday and I had a few drinks for you last night
Good luck too with your SW meeting
We had our belated christmas meal out last night ( was cancelled due to the snow in december) so it felt funny dressed up glitzy in january but it was nice to finally be able to wear the dress I had brought in November...... trouble was it was now too loose :rotfl: But I had some lovely comments sent my way from work colleagues about how I looked which I have to say are now starting to feel like they are meant. I know that may sound weird but I thought maybe before they were just saying them to make polite conversation etc.... Had a few too many glasses of wine and got a little giggly but I think the extra 600+ calories were worth having a lovely evening. I also threw a few shapes on the dance floor much to most people's surprise as I would never of in the past.
So I have to say I am starting my next chapter tomorrow.
Need to try for more positive thinking, See myself in someone else's eye's
and try to loose 5 lb's before I go skiing next month :T

I reckon need to loose five stone. I weigh 17 stones 7 lbs and at 5 ft 9 inches that is toooooooo much.
Hi Lexa! You sound just like me  I'm exactly the same height and I was a similar weight when I started a few weeks ago. I've already lost somewhere in the region of a stone (would have been more if it wasnt for christmas bah!). I'm looking to lose about the same as you too. I went down to 11.5 stone a few years back and I looked terrific although I didn't see it at the time (isn't that always the way).
I dont think I'll ever be that slim again but I certainly want to get below the 13 stone mark and my current goal is to be 15 stone by April fools day. I find that having a midway goal helps to keep me motivated because thinking I have nearly 4 stone to shift is such a depressing thought (almost enough to make me think why bother).
I'm determined that I will be able to wear standard shop bought clothes next summer, having to shop in the mens dept, wear giant tents or shop all afternoon and not find one decent thing that will fit me is just too depressing.
I hope you stick around, it'll be interesting comparing how we're doing

I get on the scales every day now. I do it every night when i take off my work uniform and get into my comfies. It was 10stone 2 today, but that was before i had my "dinner". If it ever went up i'd murder the scales. I'd love to go to one figure and be a 9 something!
Betty: glad you had a good birthday, sounds a lovely day!
Ted: oh you've been spanked by the ladies on the forum today!! You've done really well so far, and i think you are working on those binges, to go to your friends and get her to take them away was really good. Perhaps you should have had some with her when you were there to nip that craving in the bud?0 -
Yes you are so right. poor sleep -> tired & grumpy -> foodathonOh and puds sleep helps, I came on last night at gone midnight and you were on, go to bed at proper times (I was watching hot fuzz) less feeding time then;)
I dont agree with you about being cheerful and jokey though. Always end on a high note if you can. Lifes too short to stay down in the dumps for long.
Vix - yes you should see the welt marks!0 -
1st week proper on WW and 2lbs lost.
Should be happy but had lost more by friday. The weekend there was a bit of a washout for me. I was still pretty strict at mealtimes but being out on the lash two nights was the killer. I've got another big night coming up in two weeks time and have decided I'll take the car and stick to diet cokes.
Onwards and upwards though. :beer:0 -
well done pollocmc

Hi Everyone!Brighton_belle wrote: »Lolly - I did atkins 9 yrs ago. Great at first if you love meat and cheese but it just isn't sustainable long term so doesn't resolve unhealthy eating patterns long term and all the weight goes back on.
That’s a very good point; I do love the idea of eating meat and cheese all day but I am already wondering how I will manage to make balanced meals, as almost every meal I currently make contains carbs! I think a less strict version will suit me better.Eric_Pisch wrote: »controlling carbs has been a big part of my huge weight loss but i do not go as extreme as atkins, i generally stick to 33% of my intake as carbs and make sure they are slow release low GI carbs. My glucose levels are pretty even and I stopped getting carb cravings after 3 weeks.
This video of actual research results is very interesting on the effectiveness of a reduced carb diet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eREuZEdMAVo
Dr Barry Groves goes along way into explaining our dietary evolution
Its not perfect, he ignores the critical development of humans cooking food for the last 2 million years but the biological info is very relevant.
Thanks for the links, Eric. I’ve only watched the first one so far but it was really interesting. It’s help me to decide that this is something that I do want to do. I think that your 33% carbs approach is a more sensible (and practical!) option, so will probably go for something similar.
I am going to start lowering my carb intake from tomorrow but won’t commit fully until I’ve eaten most of the bread, potatoes, pasta, etc as I don’t want to waste them - and I don’t want the temptation of keeping them! Please, I beg you from the bottom of my heart, look into that mirror of yours and see something you like even if it is your eyes or ankles or your left nostril anything to bring into your life the positive because you have many.
You always come across as a decent person, if loving yourself is too hard, like yourself first and please rest assured I will not let you wallow in your pool of despair, in your worst times others have had it worse, in your darker days we have been there, cyber wise we are all here for you and I will not let you fall to your knees, every time I will pick you up, you have to see for yourself you are a fantastic person.
Right then if puds is confessing so am I 2011 going to hand in my notice, can't bear the stress anymore, leaves me jobless but calmer, have realised I am in the throws of unhappiness/depression so going to see the doc and going to go to SW meeting tomorrow night.
Your message to puds was really touching. It sounds like you are having a tough time lately as well so I hope you know that we are all there for you as well. As for quitting your job - Congratulations! It is a big move, but if it’s what you need to do then go for it, and you will feel much better for doing so. I left my job just over a year ago to return to education, and although it was a worry to begin with, it was the best thing I could have done as I feel like my life is actually going somewhere now rather than being stuck in a rut, as I was in that job.Jodie+Matt wrote: »Hi guys, great way to start the day is with Porridge (godlen syrup or cinnamon for me, i dont mean adding it myself its the ready mixed stuff) a sachet just over 200 cals with milk, so I round it down to 200. Or if I'm not that hungry I have a muller light, around 100 cals. I think its important to eat breakfast, gets your metabolism going. Then snack on fruit if you need to before lunch.
Also I find porridge to be good 'snack/supper', if like me you end up eating dinner early as you are hungry hungry hungry!! I end up hungry again by 8/9pm, and usually craving something sweet. Those golden syrup or cinnamon sachets are filling and sweet, and just 200 cals for something filling and sweet is brilliant! Also porridge is good for other aspects of health I think, so cant go wrong really
I am a newbie to this thread, but I like to share tips and ideas etc, so expect to see more random posts like this. It's just whatever my new 'craze' is and at the moment its porridge as you can see lol
Lol, I loved reading that, and look forward to hearing about your next craze! I love those sachets of porridge, although I never get to eat them as my DS is a little porridge monster and scoffs them all within a couple of days! I think I need to buy more boxes… or start hiding them, lol!Got some lovely pressies including Gizzie Erskine's cookbook (full of low fat recipes) and an oil spray so I can finally stop using nasty frylight!
Glad you had a great day. You’ve just reminded me of Gizzie’s programme, Cook yourself thin. I loved some of her recipes so will have to google them later.
Well I had a good day yesterday, 1810 cals for food but had a huge session on the Wii and burnt off 557 cals. Today wasn’t so good. I promised DS that we could have a takeaway, although luckily persuaded him to choose something from Tesco instead - he chose one of those huge (14”) create your own pizzas (he went for a plain cheese one).
I did sneak some of the cheese off though as there was way too much, I took off 186g of cheese  and there was still more than enough!!! He didn’t even notice, lol. I had a quarter of it, although I didn’t really overindulge as I usually do so it wasn’t too bad. I also threw the remaining pizza away to avoid temptation later, which was a very good move!
My cals for the day before then were 724 so even if it came to something ridiculous like 1000 (as I suspect it may!) I’m not too far over my target. I also plan to do another wii session tonight, although it won’t be as long as last night’s one.0
