SandraScarlett wrote: »Went in Oxford Street, showing my phone, had a code sent to niece who forwarded it to me. Oh no, said the 3 SAs, you can't use this.
Waited 20 minutes whilst they "checked with a Manager", then came back, one of them keyed in the code, and said "it's been used". Put my £5.50 tin of ginger chocolate biscuits back on the shelf, and left, tail between my legs, hating my niece.
Went in Romford branch, got the biccies, showed my phone, SA glanced at it, keyed something in (not the number), asked for 50p which I gave him, he passed me my biccies in a bag and said "The till says I have to give you £4.50!!!!" :rotfl:
We both laughed and looked at each other, and I said "what shall we do" and then he said "If that's what the till says, then I'm gonna do it". Which he did. Then he said "that's done". I said "I don't want you to get into trouble" and he said "that's what the till says, and now it's clear".
So I got a tin of biccies worth £5.50 for nothing, and £4 back!!!! :j
God, I love MSE!!

I don't mean to suggest that people shouldn't have done it, as the opportunity was there, just that some people seem to have gone ever so slightly over the top! £300 of items for £11, and a stash of over 40 items are always going to have people questioning other people's ethics.
Fair point. I know I have used a lot, but they were *all* sent to genuine, separate email addresses and mobile numbers. I also think that it's not really any different to the glitches that come up sometimes, where peeps get hundreds of pounds worth of stuff for next to nothing. I don't know really, I guess they should have had tighter T&Cs as well. And people have been spending money on top of the vouchers - except SandraScarlett who makes a profit on them lol!
But, as I say, you make a good point.Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Yes, I can see it looks bad (it was £100, not £300 at current prices), but Debenhams should have insisted on a minimum spend and made the T & Cs clearer. Details on MSE site state "The voucher can only be used once per customer", so that's not really the same as "Only one per person". But I agree, their intention must have been one voucher per person.
I was just pleased to be able to get what I did as living on pension credit is not realy conducive to buying decent Xmas pressies - and I'm also pleased to be able to give some decent jewellery to the Xmas Fair for the hospice.
I do feel guilty and pleased at the same time, but did not use any google glitch to get the vouchers. I think only a small number of multi-users will have posted on here - I expect there are many more who found the loophole.
.....and Debenhams now have gained new customers who will surely visit again. I, for one, had no idea they reduced items by 70%, so will definitely be going back.“Rain drops are not the ones who bring the clouds.”0 -
where's the link for the vouchers?0

This offer was only open to abuse because of Debenhams error. It should never ever gone live (like lots of glitches) before being checked. They also just made a boo boo with the treadmill, the BBQ was also a big one and lots of others no doubt.
The opportunists (like myself) will max this if given the chance, so should we have had the chance?? Why was this allowed to happen??
We are pretty lucky really to be living in the infancy of online shopping etc., will our grandchildren have the oppotunity to abuse the likes of Debenhams in the future??
The positive for Debenhams is no doubt the publicity and they have possibly gained new customers.
I would love to know how much it's cost them though.

I'm still not convinced that this wasn't planned by Debenhams all along. As Tara said, most people (except me!) have been spending, and also exploring the many floors of branches, albeit to find more tills, but meanwhile, passing racks and racks of other things, that have registered in their minds.
And when the voucher expires, there are still 6 weeks of shopping days left till Christmas, when many shoppers who may not have purchased their gifts from there will go back.
If it was a genuine oversight, I wouldn't like to be in the shoes of the employee with a sign on their desk saying "The buck stops here".

I have never been to my local Debenhams until now and it has been opened for about 10 years. I was surprised how big it was and how cheap SOME of the things were. Until a few mins ago when I saw that Debenhams were trying to get out of the vouchers and may not honour them unless we spend £25 I was going to go more often to have a look around/possibly buy rather than give it a miss like I usually do when going to the shopping centre. If they try to change the t&c and refuse the voucher then I will not go in there again.
I bet issuing the vouchers was cheaper than a few big adverts in national newspapers or the tv and it got them more customers through the door.Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

I have a few vouchers that I got through spam gourmet, do you think they will be ok? I haven't had any emails from them and spam gourmet allow them to send emails 3 per address so they could have replied to it saying it was cancelled but they haven't?0
