This may help when your turn comes http://www.aims.org.uk/
You are legally entitled to a home birth as I understand it, though you may have to stick your neck out to get one.
SIL has lectured me endlessly about how selfish I am and I am not considering the needs of women on the labour ward (she is a m/w) but
1. When I am in labour I am entitled to be selfish I think ...and
2. Our rather more enlightened midwives here point out that there are m/w managers sitting in offices who can be called on to work if needed, and there is also an on-call rota, so there is no need for anyone to suffer a m/w shortage. I also agreed to have a student here in addition, which saves them the need (I think) for a second m/w and provides an increasingly rare training opportunity.
OOh a rant, sorry!!
Just been online and put in my basket £36 worth of sample tiles for the bathroom works...going for mostly white with maybe a row of accent tiles in an art nouveau style, house is victorian looking but built in 1920s.
My OH just had a homebirth and i was great. Although she was medically not meant to but circumstances didn't allow for anything else.
She found it relaxing and liked being able to sit in her own bed a few minutes after the birth.
Personally I found it reassuring having two MW there giving her constant attention rather than on the ward where one pops in and out ever few minutes. Much more personal.

I really like you lincoln potter. You just made me have a great big smile. I've just been around here too long i think. :rotfl:
And you are making really great contributions to the board yourself. Just look how you are reassuring Grateful about home births.
Grateful Shows how out of practice i am with small animals. I didn't even think of that.0 -

I've had 3 hb's and really don't understand what all the fuss is about with some mw's thinking they can refuse them. People have been giving birth for ...erm yonks, whip it out and get on with it is what I say!
Lincoln - she's an angel isn't she!I can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -
Ah guys - i give out what i would like to receive in return. It is what my mummy taught me to do many years ago, and it mostly works out for the best unless someone mean and nasty in RL tries to walk all over me. Serves me well on MSE though.
That could almost bring a little tear to my eyes.0 -

It's not the midwives here its de management. You're right of course.lincoln-potter wrote: »My OH just had a homebirth and i was great. Although she was medically not meant to but circumstances didn't allow for anything else.

This echoes our own experiences. DH liked getting a gin and tonic (or two!) also :rotfl:
It is rubbish that people mess you around in RL, michelle but I guess here I wouldn't put up with my SIL, just wouldn't talk to her, IYSWIM, and I'm not exactly a shrinking violet (where is the understatement smilie when you need it?!)
Another night with no indoor poos by Puppy, which is great.
Did I mention I had been asked to stand for Parish Council? This would be very interesting, but would def represent a step too far with the baby, puppy and governor work. I am going to work on DH, though, as I think he would be much better at it than me, and maybe also my Dad. Flattered to be asked, though...they are all about 100:D
Going for 4 NSDs this week, Friday I have to get DD2 new shoes, and DH has helpfully broken the up and over garage door, so that will cost.
Also he has got cash out to put in party funds and if he doesn't hand it over soon, he will have spent it:mad:Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
Well guys came and fixed garage door. DD2 has been a menace since pm school run and dog has pood thrice on the floor today.
I have a meeting tonight and frankly I CBA. Not a great day. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
The meeting was like smacking my face against a bed of nails, and frankly we are being so remiss in our duties that I hope ofsted do a swoop soonish, Head and Chair are being so obstructive over us having access to data.
Ho hum. Wondering whether we should really move the DDs, as it is I am having to teach DD1 all her maths, as she isn't getting the teaching at school.
Should be a quiet day today, bit embarassed as we have been invited to a fundraiser for a charity a dear friend is involved in, problem is the charity to the outsider looks about as spurious as it can get. Hoping I have given birth by then so a good excuse.
No money news, except I have made a decision to try out the local optician instead of Boots, which is cheaper. With diesel prices as they are, the costs of diesel and parking for visits to places like opticians, plus the time out of the house away from puppy add up to a raw deal, I think. I want all day all night lenses and Boots are insisting on something like 6 visits  that's £30 in diesel already. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
Looks like I missed the Michelle fan club yesterday is it too late to sign up?
Seriously, I love the help and community spirit here - even tho I'd not have guessed lincolnp would be advising on home births :rotfl: Wonder what Martin would say about home births as money saving - no hospital parking, no use of the hospital shop, no buying a new nightie etc. :rotfl:

No way, katsu stick around! £7 diesel one trip to hosp, £1.80 minimum parking and that's if you only stay 2 hours, paying for phone calls...arranging childcare, a puppy sitter...
Much cheaper at home, and free gas and air, which would make such a good street drug if they could make it more portable and glamorous!! All the joys of being slightly sozzled with no hangover. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0
