Not too bad a day. Snow looks a certainty for Friday, could be an extra day's hols. School is organised for the possibility this time and so that's good. Had my performance management which was good, my results are "admirable" apparently! Boss gave us all a box of chocolate truffles, yummy!
Not spent any money yet, but Mr S is due 7-8pm. Have sent the girls upstairs with DH for an early bed as they are soo tired and fractious. I couldn't stand another minute of it. Lucky me not being in sole charge.
We need to order more logs, as we're getting through them, but it saves oil, as we never put the heating above 18 degrees. DD1 has gone through the knees of another pair of school trousers, they didn't even last a term. Do they make them with reinforced knees??
Get paid next week, so final mortgage overpayment of the year, and tonight I need to do some examining work, just prep.
Sort of excited about proper snow, but also inwardly groaning as the cold is so sapping. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -

Really???? Maybe I should......... nah, forget it. One night of bliss, a lifetime on the purse

Well, won a pair of curtains for DD1's room for £26 on ebay. They are huge, and lined. Just had a number withheld call, always unnerves me.
Exhausted and no snow yet. News on MIL is not good, she seems to be going downhill very fast. Am wondering if next visit we have planned may be too late, crazy that someone can get so bad so quickly, unless it is being exaggerated, and surely no-one would do that about their own mother?
Hoping for snow really, and horrified by the oil price, it has gone up 75% since October, eek! Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
Epic journey into work, over packed snow, didn't get out of second gear all the way over the moor. Got a round of applause when my year 10s saw me...never had that before :rotfl:
DH is driving the new motor, hoping it is still car shaped when he picks me up:eek: we're so glad of it, though, 4x4 really is essential when living in the sticks.
Think we may be properly snowed in over the weekend, but we are all stocked up.
Hoping everyone's loved ones are safe and warm. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
sorry to hear MIL is deteriorating quite quickly. Keeping you in my thoughts.
We have had a little snow here but certainly not enough to snow us in!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Thanks, cath. Fingers crossed I am getting it wrong.
Home now, school closed early in the end so only in for three hours. The snow was melting, but is now re-freezing because the temp is dropping.
DH was sent for cheese and went off message (2 bags of shopping later) but I can't be too cross as he left my car in it's original shape, yay!
Realise I can re-do mortgage totals as well, because it's pay day. Went about £45 over combined diesel and grocery budget this month, mainly due to DH's mercy dash to see his mum and stocking up "in case" it snows, so we shouldn't need to buy some stuff for ages.
Example, there was a good offer on conditioner for the girls, so I got 2700ml for a tenner!!
eta so this year, we have overpaid £1838, and since taking out this mortgage in Feb 2010, we have repaid £5797 of the capital. I hate to think what the value is now, as it is plummeting again I think, but I will do LTV later and report back.
Nope, LTV is unchanged. Yay!Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
I'm reading a funny book written by Jilly Cooper in 1979 called "Class". Its an essay rather than a novel, and is basically a pen portrait of stereotypical behaviour of each of the classes described by the census in that era. What strikes me is how very frugal everyone has to be, regardless of class, pretty much. Even to not wanting to put the gas fire on until their hair dries, because they couldn't afford it (or a hairdryer).
Thinking we may be heading back to those times.
I've made some soup for lunch (something posh people would never eat at lunchtime apparently, at least not in the 70's) and wrapped up presents for DD1's piano teacher (Radley bag, hope I chose well) and her daughter.
Got to go, kids back from snowangeling! Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0
