Good to hear that married life is going well! Really feeling your pain about the mould ruining it though! One of my jobs for the week is 'wash bedroom walls'... not a job I ever thought I'd have to do! If you find a good deal on a dehumidifier let me know! Also if you come up with any magic plans to stop it I want to hear them!

That dress is lovely! When I was looking for the dress I needed on that site before I was trying my hardest to avoid noticing the others, but I did look at that one and think, 'Ooooh I like!'

Sorry about the back pain Wendz, there's nothing worse. I hope it's not an infection. x

One of NIMs colleagues has lent us a dehumidifer, which is chugging away, but only appears to be slowing the issue, not stopping it.

Dinah: We had really bad black mould in our house, it got every where, on the walls, clothes, bed etc. Only way to get rid of it is vetilation. Ventilation bricks, leaving a window open (you can get locks to that the window can be opened a bit and then the lock prevents it from opeing further) or you could look into getting a vent in your window. They cut a circle of glass out and place a vent in their so you have air flow but your window is closed.

    http://www.screwfix.com/prods/75017/Heating-Cooling/Extractor-Fans/Vent-Axia-Extractor-Fan-Window-Fixing-Kit?cm_mmc=GoogleBase-_-Datafeed-_-Heating%20and%20Cooling-_-Vent-Axia%20Extractor%20Fan%20Window%20Fixing%20Kit

Also paint the walls with a proud prevention paint and then put heaters near the walls to toally dry them out. Also if you have wallpaper, it will be behind the paper so you will need to strip the paper off, fix the ventilation problem, dry out the wall before re-papering.

P.S since having vents in the wall and window we have no mould.

Thanks for the info Tasha, very interesting and helpful! Does anyone know how much energy a dehumidifier uses? We were talking about getting one but OH isn't keen if it's going to cost a fortune to run!

    Hi all,

Been away for a pamper weekend with my Mum and sister's, was a hairy drive back (was in Kinross), took us an hour to get there on Saturday and almost 3 hours to get home today. We did see Santa Claus (actually a woman in a red jacket and hat), a snowman with a hi viz on at the side of the road and a man ahem, peeing at the side of the road - in full view of passing traffic! This was one of the times I wished I was a man - I had crossed legs (glad wasn't driving).

Managed to make it home and got my boot stocked up with survival gear, cos you never know. Hope everyone off work has enjoyed it, back to the grindstone tomorrow for me.

Apparently its about 6p an hour to run it, so it'll add up over the month.

That info is really useful, thank you!

Hmmm... how long does it have to be on every day?

I could really do with taking some time off work to gut both bedrooms, wash everything down, paint the walls with anti-mould paint and put everything back but I know that I won't actually do it if I take the time off work, mainly because OH will get in the way (he hates DIY so wouldn't help, if he did we'd just fall out!), I'd have to ship him off to stay with someone for a few days so he's out of my hair! I don't really have the holiday time to do it either. I wonder if I could bribe MIL2B to do it for us?!

We have ours running all the time and it fills up completely every 8 hours or so.

I've been reading about and I can get trickle vents for £10 each which it seems we can retro fit. We have 6 windows we'd want to fit them to so I may suggest to the boys this is a priority 1 task to stop the mould.

Back from doctors and is either just back pain or infection but got to wait to find out results to see which. He said is nothing serious though which is good!
