Those incentives will definitely give you something to work towards - but have you considered the costs of the things involved as well? Like if you pay off £5k then spend £1k on a car, is that £1k included in the next target?

CMD - I'm sure next Christmas is doable for you, you're already doing brilliantly.

I'm currently trying NOT to go mad spending money to cheer myself up. I have quite a bit in the account we were using for bills - we were both putting more than needed in each month so we had some extra towards holidays etc, plus I had some of my savings put aside for the wardrobes I never needed in the end :o and he's just said he doesn't want any of it back. I want to keep this money so I can try and move out again as quickly as possible.

Was talking to my friend in Dublin last night and she invited me over for her birthday next weekend but the flights are £100 and when you add in petrol to the airport and parking, plus speding money, it'lll come to £250+ for the weekend and it's just too much unfortunately. I am going to treat myself to a much-needed haircut though and maybe a winter coat.

Realised this morning that I've never been under the bonnet of my new car since I bought it in April - needed to put some water in the windscreen washer thingy and struggled to get it open for about 5 minutes, and then couldn't get the cap off the poury-in bit. I'm totally ashamed of myself for letting a man just do all this for me for so long. But pleased I managed to work it out without having to drag Dad out of bed to help :o

PS - Swinstie I think NIM tried to enter a short post and the forum rules thing popped up to say it has to be at least ten characters long, so he added that bit so it would be allowed? Don't know what the 'No dice' bit means though?

A winter coat and haircut sounds lovely Tete. You are right to treat yourself but not go too mad as your savings will come in handy for moving out, or whatever you decide to do.

I am treating myself to a new coat and haircut myself. I also have treated myself to a new pair of boots (the ones I posted) and 2 new dresses. How am I justifying this? Well the £200 I was going to spend on Max for swimming/music is not needed at the moment because potentially we might be moving in the middle of the classes so not worth the money. Also my maternity is officially over so am back on AQA and will make up the shortfall there. I have used discount vouchers and have saved about £75 so far so am quite happy with that. Have worked out all that will cost Boots (£108 down from £135), Coat (£75 down from £100), Dresses £96 (down from £123).

No point in losing all that weight and looking like something dragged through a bush!

  • On a complete side note - had a terrible night with Max teething last night. He was in terrible pain and we had to rock him to sleep in his buggy (at around 2am) as he couldn't get to sleep. In between all that a massive spider came into our room and I froze on the spot and poor OH had to remove everything from that area (had been packing some boxes earlier) to show me he was gone. I was terrified. I now realise I need to go to hypnotherapy as I was literally frozen to the spot :(

  • The spiders are all coming in, I know - had to remove one with a pint glass the other day!

Yeah I'm planning on using vouchers too. There's a 25% DP voucher knocking about so if they have the coat in I like it'll be £48.75 rather than £65, and I've been looking at the 50% Saks thing in the email. I'm wondering how much highlights will cost there, and if the 50% off the haircut and finish brings it down to about what I'd pay at my normal hairdressers for highlights and a trim I might give them a go. Anyone have any ideas of their prices? Might also have a look at the spa offers when they come out tomorrow - see if I can get a massage or something in the area. If not, I might book one, or something treaty, at the college where Dinah and I did our dressmaking.

Haven't cried yet today and am feeling semi-normal can you tell? But this in itself upsets me - I don't want to reach a stage of acceptance with it all :(

Aw poor Max (and poor you CMD!) I'm not great with spiders either - especially when they don't fit under a normal-sized glass! *shudder*

Tete, I don't think Saks is really any more expensive than anywhere else (T&G or Rush for example), so 50% off should make it reasonable. Anyway, you deserve a treat :) I hope they have your coat in stock at DP. It's freezing!

PS. Semi-normal is good! It doesn't make it less important or less upsetting - it just means that you're finding a way to cope. And if you can get through the worst part, you can handle anything (and that deserves a dodgy hug :grouphug:)

Cinny, I feel for your OH - that's such a shame :( but families are funny old things and maybe things'll be different when you've actually moved in. Is this the first time he's moved out of home?

Oh Tete! Hug_emoticon___v2.gif I know it must be upsetting, but you'll feel so much better when you're feeling fully back to normal and are getting on with other things. It doesn't make the relationship you had with him any less special.

Good ideas with the new coats and hair cuts and discounts ladies! :D I so want a new winter coat. But I still have my super-dooper-£5-lime-green-DP-special from last winter so although it doesn't feel very 'me' anymore I can't justify a new one :( OH winter coat needs a new zip anyways, so that's top of the list.

Eruuuugh to the spiders! Don't you people have conkers?! I started getting loads when it got colder so went and picked some conkers and haven't had one since :D Taking my pooch out for a walk tonight to pick some for the new house. It'd bloody ridden with them :(

Cinny, your hug is much nicer than mine! Do conkers really work? I thought it might be an old wives tale?

I used to try the conker trick at my parent's old house... but the mice liked them! I hate spiders too but I've had to become a little braver since moving in with OH as he's a big girl's blouse when it comes to creepy crawlies and we have to battle them together- always good fun, especially when we have to have a shot of rum afterwards to calm our nerves!

I was quite interested in the Saks deal, but I've gotten quite tight and found a place near me that does dry cuts for £14 so I've started going there! I'm terrible though and average about 3 cuts a year which is not very good!

I rang the garage up yesterday to pay my bill and the man asked if I'd been checking my water but I don't know how to! He told me that I have to go every couple of weeks and he'll check for me because he doesn't trust me!

It's a good idea to try to hold onto that money for moving out Tete, but also nice to have a few treats so do allow yourself a mini spree! I don't think it's bad that you're getting on quite well, would you rather be in bed wallowing and feeling terrible? We don't want that! Girls are strong when they need to be and you're proving that now.

Had a really odd dream about Cinny last night, she'd come to meet me for some reason and I dragged her into work (which was actually a weird old mill), the poor girl was bored silly but I wouldn't let her leave! How strange... I wouldn't do that in real life my dear, I promise! I've just realised that that makes me sound a bit odd and psycho-ish which I'm definitely not! :rotfl:

Er, Birdie, does this chap in the garage fancy you at all?! Sounds a bit too helpful!

LOL! I don't know... although I am probably his only customer under 40! I think it's more a case of me giving off major 'damsel in distress' signals! :rotfl:
