Morning all!
Had a lovely weekend in Ireland and the christening of my niece/goddaughter went really well.
Went to see my Great-uncles house which is up for sale. It is a complete blank canvas and needs a lot done to it but has double-glazing (sorry Dinah! and has been completely re-wired and plastered. So I guess we would need to put in heating, a brand new kitchen, new bathroom and sort out floors. Anyone want to put a price estimate to that????
I loved it. It was the house my Nanny and all her family (13 of them grew up in and it very old and quite quirky. Negatives are that there is only on-street parking, people that come to visit (and park) have to pay for the privilege and bins would have to come through the house on bin day. OH isn't overly keen on the location (town) but I don't mind and don't view it as a forever house. Not sure how quickly it would sell again but I don't think rental would be a problem. It is a really good price too!
Zig - I hope you are feeling okay today. Don't make any hasty decisions just yet. I defo think you should travel but maybe give yourself 6 months to get your head straight.
Good luck to your OH Cinny
How is the business going Dinah?

I could price in pounds for my area, but I have no clue how it would differ over there - when we went for coffee and it was e9 I would have told them to put it back in the jug!
Still having supplier issues with the business and have ground to a halt because of this. Until I get the finished product in my hand I'm a bit stuffed for anything else to do.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Goodness there's been a lot to catch up on over the weekend!
Zig, can't believe the kissing thing! Road Trip Of Doom is on! I really think that you have to cut ties, for now at least. I understand you not wanting to lose your best friend but it's just going to be too hard right now to get your head round it if you do stay in touch. I wouldn't have him at graduation, if he wanted to be there he shouldn't have broken up with you 2 weeks before it, 'nuff said.
Agree with the others that you should get yourself off and travel if you get the itch. Camp America would be amazing, or Disney do (or used to do...) a graduate program so you can work there for a couple of months and meet people from all over the world, get some experience that looks great on your CV and have a fantastic time. I had a school friend who did it over her summer break from uni, loved it so much she did it again once she'd graduated.
I completely agree with how unfair it is to live alone cost-wise, considering how many people live alone nowadays compared to 10/20/30 years ago, there should really be some kind of help so people aren't struggling so much. I looked into it about a year before I moved in with OH but there was no way I could afford it. Council tax should be reduced by at least 50% IMO. I'm sure it was Bridget Jones who came up with some kind of government help scheme for 'singletons' (in her words) to help pay for dating since it costs so much in clothes, make-up, cab fares, drinks etc that it really adds up and you can't afford it anyway since you're already paying through the nose just to live!I think £350 a month will be possible, but it will mean being frugal and will require a little more planning for weekends away, but you're already good with money so I'm sure you'll manage.
That's a nice haul of clothes Dinah! I'm very jealous! I love the red trousers, they're a really nice cut. I hate low cut stuff so I might just have to go and check them out... not that I've got any money to spend right now! I popped into Monsoon with my Mum yesterday and reminded her that she'd said I could have a birthday dress from there (in May!!!) but there was still nothing! It's really bad this year for some reason, I couldn't move for dress lust in there last summer. I suppose that's a good thing really, but not when I'm offered treats and can't find any!
Hope your OH has a good first day Cinny! How mega exciting about the money, love the fact that you just want to treat everyone to dinner with it, you're so sweet!
The house sounds like a good project CMD, do you think you could take it on with 2 small children?Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -

If you could cost up a general price that would be great Dinah. I don't know how much prices are bak home but I know it is more competitive (due to the recession) and it would be my uncle doing a lot of the work so wouldn't be as expensive as a city (where I live now). Did I mention floors as well? They are in bits!

It's crazy though, how quickly I know it'll be spent. But hopefully it'll mean that by the end of the year we'll be living in a lovely house, completely debt free, with a good emergency fund and general better-off-ness just because I took a minute out my day to enter my bread barcode into a website. It still seems totally bonkers and like my head made it up. One thing I'd love to do more than going on a few holidays is to finally get our family together for one big meal. And I don't see why that couldn't happen now
But in real life news, it's council tax and phone bill day. Boo£153.97 gone in a second. Though OH starts his new job today, in about 30 minutes. I'm all nervy for him!!
It really is bonkers! But how amazingAnd enough to split between sensible stuff and frivolous fun - happy shopping spreeee!
Hope it goes well for your OH today. Mine started his new job last week and I was all nervy too - even though at 34 he can probably look after himself
CMD, it always sounds like you have such a nice time back in Ireland. I'd love a house with some family history! No idea how much all the work would cost - will leave that to Dinah! - but would be a lovely project. Would you have to live there while you did it?LBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380 -
Hi Birdie!
How was your weekend?
TBH - the house is not going to sell anytime soon so wouldn't even take it on til OH got a job over in Ireland. We would live with my parents, or in rented and it would be family doing the work so I would just delegate and then come in and live in it. I would get the bare minimum done, heating, floors, kitchen and bathroom & kiddies room and then do it up bit by bit. It is a quirky house though, and I love quirky!
Might pull on OH's heartstrings by mentioning the lovely drum shed he could build out the back!Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Hi Poddle,
How are you and how are the wedding plans going?
No - would just move in when the bare essentials were done and could live with my parents til then, which would be great.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

What part of the country CMD? I'm fairly ok at calling prices back home. This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.:j:j:j:j0 -
My weekend was quite nice thank you! Work party on Friday, birthday party on Saturday... very sleepy Sunday!
I love a quirky house too, it sounds brilliant if you can have it as a family project to do it up!
Is your OH enjoying his new job Poddle? I don't think you ever stop worrying about them making friends and fitting in no matter how old they are!
What are the supplier issues Dinah? Does it require a Road Trip with the flail to sort out?!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0
