River Island refusing to refund even with a receipt!

All I've posted is the town and store in which I work.
I've no problem if anyone wants to pop in and see me, and they can easily find all of this info on my Facebook account anyway.
Yes, there are some nutters about, but I for one will not lock myself away because of a few people.0 -
The trouble with you and many others on this forum is that you do not believe many of the statements made by people coming here for advice.
Muffinmaker, did buy the cardigan and she did take it back to exchange it for another size. She then states that she wasn't given a receipt for the new one.
In my vast experience of shopping when you return something you are often asked for your name and address etc and there are often quite a few bits of paper on the desk, so why should we assume that a new receipt was actually given to the OP. Why should we assume that the OP would know that she should have a new receipt.
You should also ask why would the OP go to such lengths as to try and get advice here if she was a shop lifter.
Muffinmaker is just another person on the extremely long list of people on here that get set on by a gang of vicious people.
Now she has stated that HO is going to give her a refund you have all gone on to barrack her about that, trying to find fault in every word she writes.
Shameful behaviour......
Fortunately myself and others like me are aware that when some people type "she is entitled to a refund" we know that that is 100% incorrect.
I am sure that with your "vast experience of shopping" and "excellent knowledge of all things" you will understand this.0 -

I was right though, RI HO is giving her the refund.0 -

Yes we do believe their statements, muffinmaker did not say she wasn't given a new receipt. You might want to actually read what she said.
No one said she was a shoplifter, it was simply pointed out that the shop needs to guard against shoplifters who may try returning items without a receipt.
As for her getting a refund from HO. It is either RI taking the easy way out to get rid of a difficult customer, or simple BS.
Michelle has some knowledge of procedures, I would tend to agree with her toughts.
Zandoni, you really need to understand there are two sides to every story, the shop staff are human as well and there is no excuse for them to be belittled by a customer who is mis informed of their rights.
Belittled as in being told they are wrong when they are not, questioned on every decision they make, and no doubt by the attitude the OP has displayed in here then there was more.0 -
Zandoni and Muffinmaker are never online at the same time .... spooky
;)

There are statutory rights, which have been discussed already, and goodwill gestures which have also been discussed.
Many stores will also refund someone who threatens, complains, etc (not aimed at OP specifically, general terming)- purely to get rid of them. It isn't covered in stat rights, it's purely they would rather refund/return at a handful of pounds on their budget sheet than have a Head Office complaint and compensation.
I know in several shops, I've refused a refund with no tags/receipt as in some, we did have a scam operating for a while. People would come in, buy one item, return it, keep the receipt, and on their way out of the store, lift three more off the shelf. It was in my experience the people (usually) who had scammed would have been the ones who complained the loudest.
I also would have accepted a return/refund without a receipt if I could remember it being sold (I'd get details off pc later, literally thousands of transactions in a day- can take hours just to scan one day.)0 -

Everyone assumes that muffinmaker was rude in the store, this is not the impression I got.
But whatever peoples opinions are on this matter there's no need to bully people when they come here for advice.
It looks like she's getting a refund and it doesn't matter if it's a so called good will gesture or whatever, as long as she gets it0
