  • I know, I know, but it was on offer and I want to eat it rather than leave it in the freezer for goodness knows how long.

I have two pieces of salmon - I bought them 'cos I don't like or eat enough fish.

Please somebody, give me a really easy recipe that involes me throwing them in the oven or under a grill with no fancy sauces. Something really simple, that will complement (hide) the fishy taste a little.

Just think, you could be adding years onto my life if I can get fish onto my weekly menu.

    Thanks in advance.

  • I love salmon and preferred it wrapped in foil and baked for about 20 mins in the oven, however if you poach it in boiling water it loses some of the taste imo, so you could try that. Bring water to the boil, add salmon and cook for about 10-15 mins depending how how thick your piece is

Have it with either pesto or sun dried tomato pasta smothered on top. Wrap in foil and bake for 15 mins. You can add breadcrumbs and cheese and bake for the last 5 mins uncovered too.

I also have mine pan friend in stir fry using sesame oil and soy sauce, the other flavours mean the salmon isnt strong at all.

Why dont you try other fish which are more moneysaving if that is a concern? Fresh sardines are not too fishy

I like to pan-fry it for a couple of minutes on each side on a medium flame till it a bit crispy on the outside and serve it with new potatoes and a bit of green veg-very healthy!

I like salmon with a herb crust. Mix herbs (basil, thyme, rosemary) with some breadcrumbs and a little olive oil. Spread over the top of the fillets. Cook uncovered in the oven for about 20 minutes.

There are lots more ideas on this older thread:

I'll merge your thread with that one later to keep all the suggestions together.

  • I love salmon. You could try poaching it in water and vinegar, and add one or two chopped onions, mmmm!

  • Salmon fishcakes are very nice if you put a lot of salmon in them but if you want an easy dish put it in a GF grill and when it's ready squeeze lemon juice on it and eat with new potatoes and a green vegetable.

This sounds more complicated than it is...

... poach the salmon in a 50/50 mix of soy sauce and water with a little ginger and sugar in it, powdered or root ginger, it doesn't really matter (if you like things a bit spicy add a few chilli flakes as well, I normally steam som veg above it in the same pan, all this takes about 10-15 minutes depending on the size of the salmon, serve it with some noodles and the pour over what's left of the liquid.

I marinade salmon in a mixture of soy sauce & honey, fry in a dry pan & serve with a chinese-y style stirfry veg & noodles. Yummy
