It asks for Town of Birth but the field is greyed out. This is because it pre-filled all other information that the PO already holds but the form validation doesn't allow me to proceed without my Town of Birth - what a pity. I have tried IE8 and Firefox but to no avail.
You could apply as a new customer!0 -

From the Common Question page :
" If you’re unable to use the online application process, we can send you an application form in the post. Please call 0845 600 5581 to request a copy. Alternatively download an Online Saver application form. "0 -

I have the same issue, as a return customer or a new one. I've previously had a savings bond with the PO. While their rates may be market leading, my experience of their backroom support and structure is anything but satisfactory.0 -
Thanks to johnmoney05 and molly_mandy for your responses. If I apply as a new customer I end up with two access codes for online servicing - hardly a progressive solution. Applying by post is even more backward as I am already an online customer. I guess I have to try and raise this matter directly with the PO. I posted here in case others had had similar experiences and had already raised the issue.0

I have managed to speak with the PO and they advise they have pulled the online application process right now. I wonder if this is due to high demand or are they fixing the validation error I have encountered - amongst many I suspect !0

Thanks for the information. I hope they are not pulling the offer as well. I just sent my postal application.0

I have just opened this account online. Compared to the NatWest fiasco it was a breeze. It took about ten minutes. ID checked electronically, initial deposit made by debit card, direct debit instruction to nominated account done. Specimen signature via downloaded form. Simples.
Meanwhile, 26 days after applying, I await means to withdraw my £1 from the NatWest account, and on 15th November I will qualify for the bonus.0 -

Same here, easy application for the Post Office!
I got the NatWest forms but fortunatley didn't send off the completed application, not gonna bother now!0 -
The online application was restored as sceptic001 and moneysaver84 note. The route I had to take in the end was to get my records updated on my existing PO Creditcard so that they carried forward to the Online Saver application correctly. Now all complete and happy. In summary, if screen validation prevents you moving forward get on the phone and populate the existing database to ensure the PO Online Saver process can proceed.0

What a rubbish website.
I tried to apply yesterday and got the message
Sorry there has been an error
I did manage to get my application in early this morning but now my wife is getting the same error.
I wonder who the clowns are who wrote the server side application and database.
It gives me no confidence in investing is this account.0
