Before considering opening account with the Post Office I would recommend you read about our experience in the thread under the name Post Office savings chaos, and then DON'T DO IT!!

I opened my PO online account a few weeks ago with no problems at all.Am I one of a few lucky ones or are there a few unlucky potential PO savers on this forum,It may well be that there are thousands of happy online post office savers out there.Time will tell If this thread reaches 100 pages then ill know I was lucky.

Opened an account towards the end of October and still haven't fathomed out how to actually transfer into my account.

The 'Transfer In' option isn't clickable in the left navigation menu, and can I get through to anyone on the Post Office customer service team? Can I heck! Tried three times in three days and after ten minutes being told my call is important, I've decreed that my custom probably isn't and I shall be going elsewhere instead.

The link on the left does not highlight when you move your pointer over it,but if you still left click on it it will bring up further options below it.I hope this helps.

Further to mwd's answer, you have to click on the tiny arrow on the far left, not on the text as with other menu choices - not very user-friendly but it does work.

You can also pay in via BACS with the account sort code/number you should have been given on opening the account.
  • no problems at all for me, all works fine.

Works fine for me using the debit from current account option, but I also pay in via debit card too with no issues.

Just hope things in Ireland improve but either way covered under FSCS.

    And sure enough, it works.

Like you say though, very non-friendly in the navigation stakes.

IMO internet accounts are best opened with just £1 until account has been fully established.

Since opening my account 1 month ago (with £1) I'm still awaiting for my user name (tho' I rec'd PIN 3 weeks ago and account opening details last week).
You needn't have waited. See my earlier post #69 from 5th November. :)

'Slightly clunky' is a good description. The other major difference between DD and debit card deposits is the length of time after deposit that the cash can be withdrawn. Same day for debit card and 4 days for DD. This appears to be applied quite rigorously. I tried to withdraw some money today against a deposit that is dated in the account as put in on the 10th, but was given the message ' Account not allowed to have negative values'.
I take it that this means the system still considers the money to be inside the DD limit of 4 working days. I will try again tomorrow and see.
