  • My wife has the same problem as MikeThe Saver. It has been weeks now.
  • I've spoken to Post Office Online. I now have three accounts set up! They acknowledged that there is a problem with the web site. I should receive details in the post in the next week. I'll keep you posted (!)
  • I applied online just over 2 weeks ago. I have nothing, no information, no confirmation letter. Phoned them up, said had my application and confirmation would be posted. Still waiting. Anyone else have same issue?
    Savings target by December 2011:
    ISA: 5100
    Child trust fund: 1200
    Instant Access: 1400
    Credit Union: 300
  • I can understand the frustration of other forum posts here. I opened an Online Saver account with the P.O. a couple of weeks ago, in response to the high interest rate and the newly instituted UK protection. Since receiving all the necessary login details, I've tried unsuccessfully to transfer cash from another account via the online debit card transfer facility. This has been inoperable for a week now, giving me a choice of error messages:

    1)
    Error message:
We are currently experiencing some technical difficulties with our site
Please bear with us while we are trying to fix it as soon as possible. 'Alternatively if you would like to speak with someone now please call our customer service team. For savings call 0845 602 3409** and for Credit Card call 0845 607 6500**.
    2)Please see error(s) highlighted below.
Error: Debit card payment cannot be processed at this time. Please try again or use a different method of payment

When I tried to contact P.O. customer service to query when this would be fixed, I observed the following problems:

    1) The help telephone number 0845 607 6500 given on the Online Saver login page is for credit cards, not the Online Saver A/C.
    2) The help telephone number 0845 602 3409 given in my account welcome notification letter is for standard savings A/Cs. Staff at this number told me they have not had any training on new Online Savings A/C, don’t know why the debit card deposit payment transfer facility won’t work and don’t know when it will be fixed. They also can’t advise me of a direct telephone number to dedicated Online Saver customer support. One unhelpfully quoted me “as it’s an online A/C, you manage it yourself” – she didn’t seem to appreciate that the P.O. I.T. systems must actually work for me to manage my A/C.

I've now sent off a complaint via the login page "Contact us" facility as I can't find any other way to talk to somebody who either knows what is going on or actually cares. I'm not optimistic about a response, given my experience of the P.O./Bank of Ireland so far. To say I'm unimpressed would be generous.

If anyone else has had similar difficulties transferring money via debit card into their Online Saver P.O. account, I'd be grateful if you would post, together with any advice on how to resolve it.

Have you tried 0800 1694955 as quoted in an earlier post?
  • Thanks sceptic001. Finally got somebody who advised me that the content of the error messages do not reflect the actual error. Apparently there are variable limits arbitrarily applied by different banks to online debit card transactions and the transaction I was trying to credit to my P.O. account from another account exceeded this limit. The card payment was therefore declined and this generated the misleading error messages I received from the PO. I hope this info helps anyone else who's tearing their hair out. It might be useful if the P.O. posted this info on the Online Saver web page and amended the error messages generated to properly reflect the actual problem.
I also discovered that you can make payments from any other account to your Online Saver account by BACS or CHAPS direct, in addition to the advertised debit card and nominated account methods (which is what I've now done).
  • :p im one of the poor saps who field the calls at mo online saver is a new product and as such has its glitches( rather a lot) imho considering its money we are dealing with we see people with dupe accts most ive seen is 8 and each one has taken the intial deposit,, sometimes tho the system hangs in the middle of signing up and folk press enter more than once if the system is running erratically dont continue try again later. withdrawls is the same with all po products to a nominated bank acct, if i can help anyone inbox me :A

Unlike the experiences here, I opened an online saver on 2nd November. everything from getting User ID, PINs, Changing PIN, money transfer to and from nominated account, BACS transfer from non-nominated account, transfer using Debit card all went smoothly. Maybe I am lucky !
  • Dont think I will bother with this now, sounds too much like hard work! Will just bung the funds in an account I already have with another provider I think.
  • Further to my previous posts, I've now received a letter requesting proof of identity. So, things are moving at last. Unfortunately, it seems I can't just take the documents to a Post Office ... no, that would be far too easy.
