Good morning
I have just reinstalled windows, everything seems to be fine except I have no sound! The speakers are plugged in and I have tried troubleshooting, ensuring mute is not checked and so on. Can any one suggest any remedy?
Thank you..........Silence is not golden apparantly.

Sounds like a driver problem to me. Do you have on-board sound or a sound card?
Go into the device manager and see what it tells you.

Can you verify that the speakers are still OK? Plug them into a iPod or something? Or similarly plug a set of headphones into the speaker socket? Did you unplug the speakers at any point?Fiscal drag, that's my problem. Too many people dragging on my fiscals.0

Yes the speakers still work. I did unplug them at one stage. I am on xp home. I used the drivers which were supplied with the systemBe ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0

Without wanting to insult your intelligence, are you sure you have the speaker cable plugged into the correct socket? I believe my sound card has three jack sockets.
To prove I have no intellectual high ground to stand on, I spent half an hour last week trying different combinations of speakers and earphones in an effort to determine why I was only getting sound in one ear. I had just come to the conclusion that my sound card was somehow faulty when it ocurred to me to look at the volume control in the system tray. Lo and behold, the balance was set 100% to one side.
