They've got a 6.5l one in Aldi for £17.99 at the moment too - http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_16010.htm - but I got one from there about a year ago and wasn't impressed: the lid was a very poor fit, the "high" setting didn't seem to cook any faster than the "low one, and then it packed up altogether after maybe 10 uses over a few months. Unfortunately I'd been given it as a gift and the giver was unable to locate the receipt so I couldn't get a refund. It didn't have an obvious brand name on it, though, and the one they have now seems to be Delta brand, so it may not be the same one.0

Can anyone tell me if its cheaper to use a slow cooker than put a dish in the gas oven on low, Cheers!0

I've got the cookworks 3.5ltr slow cooker which is tall and thin and I like to stand a whole chicken in there, neck end up and let it cook. It makes beautiful chicken however its such a squeeze and I have to take the ankles off and squeeze it in.
Has anyone tried putting a whole chicken in this one and had good results? I'm just thinking that as its not tall you would have to lay the chicken down in it and I wonder whether it would end up too greasy laying in all the juices? With mine it isn't in the juices just the heat?
I hope that makes sense. I havent really got room for another slow cooker but at this price it may be worth me getting one just for whole chicken.0 -

I can get a whole chicken in my 3.5l oval one (like the one posted but half the size)
For any meat, if you crunch up balls of tin foil and place them in the bottom of the slow cooker, and place the meat on top of them, the foil balls keep the meat from sitting in the juices.
For chicken I don't worry too much, it cooks to absolute falling apart tenderness and I find it easy to drain the juices and strip off the skin at the same time when removing from the pot.0 -
