I get my basics at Farmfoods, fresh juice, bread, milk etc and then my main food from Asda. Toiletries I get from somewhere like Home Bargains if Asda don't have any specials on.

This week I've gone back to online shopping as over the last year I've slipped back into going into the shop every few days and spending way more on things I never really needed. My 2 week shop for the staples from Asda has cost just over £50 includes meat, diary, butter, cereals, tins of beans, tomatoes etc and cat food. I did my shop through Mysupermarket for the first time and was amazed to see that my trolley at Tesco cost £68, no way would I pay the extra there.

I'm lucky in that I work long shifts so have more days off and time to pop to farmfoods or the farm shop for fruit and veg, don't think I could afford to shop if I had to get it all in one shop and definately not if I had to get it from Tesco.
• I live in a very rural area (far North Scotland) until 2 years ago we had co-op and safeway. We now have Lidl and a huge Tesco in one of the small towns. I hardly ever go to Tesco but when I do I feel gutted at the cash machine. I do most of my shopping between Lidl and Co-op and local butcher.
Because we have a lack of shops in general it is tempting to go to Tesco, for instance it's the only place you can buy a CD or a book. Also we have 4 clothes shops in total between 2 towns so Tesco selling clothes is a big draw for people. I went in on Saturday and spent £75 and came home with nothing you could make a meal from. It's too tempting as you have to go through all the home ware, clothes etc before getting to the food.

I've been Money Tipped!
never shop at tescos since they stopped taking coupons if you don't buy the item as they are way too expensive.
i now get veg at market/lidl/aldi and rest at lidl/aldi and you can whizz through these stores as much less choice which suites me.

I do most of my shopping in Tesco and the rest in Asda.

Yesterday I spent £82 and got over £37 off in coupons.

check out the coupon thread, there is a Morrisons printable coupon for £5 off a £40 spend which you can use at Tesco as well as lots of other coupons.

• :(Tesco have definitely got more expensive over the past year plus, whenever I’ve tried their own label stuff, it hasn’t been as nice as Sainsbury’s stuff (I don't mind paying a bit extra, occasionally, for a better product, but not otherwise).
My mum always used to shop at Tesco but I took her to Asda a couple of months ago and she couldn’t believe how much cheaper it was.
Although Tesco is my nearest store, I only go there in an emergency now. Otherwise, i go to Asda (an extra 10 mins drive away) for most of my stuff, and then call at Sainsbury’s to get the things I can’t get at Asda or are just nicer (or more ethically sourced). Doing this, I reckon I’ve saved at least £50 on my monthly food bill.
Maybe Tesco’s motto “every little bit helps” really means the every little bit of extra money they add onto their prices. No wonder they posted record profits back in April !
• Im just back from tesco and im shocked at the price increases just lately, example

Tesco strong bread flour for breadmaker was 68p then went on offer at 50p now £1.28.

Yes we've just noticed the exact same thing today, the strong white bread flour has been 69p for a long time and today it's just shot up to £1.29! That's an 87% price increase!!!

There was warnings about the price of flour/bread increasing back in August due to poor harvests etc...Asda and the others will no doubt do the same as it's a global issue.

Tesco have best sell by dates but asda are cheaper by 10 to 12£ on a £50 shop online. If you get a short shelf/fridge life ring them and they refund and let you keep item.
