Does anyone else find Tesco expensive?

I haven't shopped in Tesco for a few months and was really shocked at how much more some of their products cost. Yesterday I did my usual weekly shop in Aldi and then Asda. Then I popped into Tesco to look for DH's fav shower gel and had a look at the prices of some of the items I had previously bought in the 2 other shops and couldn't believe that some of the same items were 10p, 20p, 30p and even £1 more than I had paid earlier! I roughly calculated that if I had done all of my shopping in Tesco I think I would have spent at least another £10!
I shall continue to shop in Aldi (cucumber, new potatoes, carrots, broccoli, onions 39p, cauli, parsnips 49p etc) and Asda.

Oh by the way Aldi's fireworks are much cheaper than Asda's this year and they are made by the same company.:D

people who shop there all the time seem convinced its cheap, i suppose they believe tescos hype

I find Tesco to be the cheapest for my weekly shop. I use mysupermarket to compare and it always comes out at least £5 cheaper than the compared rivals.

I find Tesco prices have gone up a lot lately, some of their ofers are ok, but all in all I think Morrisons is best for geeral prices, and their offers are always better than any other supermarket, It's a question of what you buy I guess, but I used to use Tesco every week, and now very rarely go there, as I find Morries has a really good product range, and good offers...although you can't beat the M&S meal deal :)

I think if I was selective and only bought the cheap items (value choc digestives 23p) then I wouldn't spend too much, but when a bottle of mayo cost me £2 in Asda and is over £3 in Tesco then I wouldn't save much!

I have never been to Morrisons before but my parents seem to prefer it to Asda. Oh no too many shops to shop in!

We, too, do find Tesco expensive so as a rule we would only shop in Tesco when we get a "£10 off £50" offer. Last weekend we happily found out that 1 pack of Tesco 10 single cheese slices (200g) was only priced at £0.35 (not on promotion) on Tesco's website which we thought was excellent. So we went ahead and bought 30 packs plus many other stuff and arranged delivery for today. To our big surprise, when they were delivered to us earlier this evening, we were charged for £0.95 per pack - the price nearly tripled! And I‘d also like to mention that the isotonic tropical drinks we ordered were priced at £0.39 at that time but today‘s bill shows £0.40. We went online and double checked Tesco's website, indeed the price just went up!

I can't believe Tesco is actually doing this - we are really shocked by this experience.

Hi - I would say print out your order when its sent - then they should honour it and you have proof - I've often not got a copy to double check but have learnt now!

I am housebound so do all shopping with Tesco - and yes it is going up a lot - even the Value items.

Was thinking of changing to Asda - the only other one who delivers here - but not sure if its worth the bother - but might do a trial shop to compare.

Tescos are expensive yes. But then I am also finding most stores are also expensive and prices seem to be rising everywhere, Tesco included.

I don't shop in Asda so can't comment but Sainsburys prices are very high. But Tesco is steadily becoming the same in products I purchase. Fresh Fruit and Veg is virtually the same in price. Frozen Veg is the same in price BUT Sainsburys tend to be instock of all their own lines, Tesco does not and I end up having to pay more for premium brands such as the Green Man veg.
Meat and fish (well mainly fish) I find the prices are the same, especially for frozen and in some cases Sainsburys come out cheaper!
Fizzy diet drinks, Tesco have better deals but prices seem to be the same in all the supermarkets I have visited.

I have not been able to get to an Aldi or Lidl for about 5 years now. 5 years ago the ones neareast me were not worth the visit as flies were all over the bruised fruit and the rest of the store was just tinned or highly processed refined stuff I don't eat. I hope its changed since as many people do seem happy to shop their an no longer shop at supermarkets.

If you are free in the day times though (I wish I could do this!) Fresh fruit and vegetables are best bought from Markets- way better quality then Supermarkets at the moment (or am I just unlucky and only seeing the grungy stuff). Has anyone else noticed standards going down hill?

If you use mysupermarket.com you'll be able to make a direct comparison on the prices before you place the order. HTH
