I have been away from this forum for a couple of months and have just returned this week.....still the same drama queens and still the same old posters talking sense....Nothing changes ...LOL

Whether the sellers story is credible or not or true or not, at this stage the only rule they are 'known' to be breaking is an ebay one about declaring their business status. Yes this means that they may be slipping under the radar for compliance to certain rules only covering businesses but as all their buyers seem to be happy then there is no great harm done.

As for tax avoidance allegations - no one here can possibly know if they are defrauding the IR so why speculate?

I agree with you, apart from the fact that the seller is obviously not telling the truth. If they can't tell the truth, then how can you trust them?

If you have a feedback of 11000+ then I suspect that you should be a business seller.

    Yes I am.

Which means that ebay displays your business address anyway.

Yes they do - EXACTLY - My business address I stated I would never give out my HOME address.

As for your phone number, if you are operating as a business then I think it is worth having another phone line installed just for business use.

I do have a business landline but as I am only at the business premises for approx 2 hours a day it is better customer service to give a mobile phone number on which they can get me anytime! My comments were made largely for the benefit of people who run a business from home - why should they put their home phone number (landline) on for all to see? Exposing their partner & children to their work and potentially crazy buyers ranting about ebay stuff?

But how you operate is completely up to you.

It seems that some people seem to be twisting what I said around. The fact is that all the advice people are given is not to trust any seller or tradesman who only gives out a mobile number.

Thankfully my buyers are not as suspicious as you seem to be. My feedback, experience and reputation in my field speak for themselves.

And this is for obvious reasons. Even the credit card merchant companies give a possible fraud score for all transactions, and they give a very poor score for any anonymous details such as mobile numbers and hotmail, yahoo, and gmail e-mail addresses. At no point have I said that all people who only give out a mobile number are dodgy. But it is a fact that people who don't want to be traced use anonymous forms of communication.

You are still missing my point. You sau your buyers aren't as suspicious as me. What I am trying to tell you is that you could have far more buyers if you gave out a land line number. I use a land line number which diverts to my mobile after 6 rings. Or you could have an answerphone message that asks people to either leave a message, or call your mobile as your are out of your office. Both of these are regarded as far more professional and more trustworthy than just publishing a mobile, as everyone knows that scammers only give out mobiles, but are unlikely to give out a valid land line number.

I sell beds on ebay, and I have heard the comment many times from people "It's good that you display a land line number that we can actually talk to you on". I admit that beds are high value, and people would be more wary. However suspicious people will be wary all the time. There are many scammers and crooks on ebay, so it's understandable that people are wary.
