An awful lot of unwanted bedding

That's the funniest thing I have read in ages.:rotfl:They look like a private seller to me.
One listing states where and at what price the items were brought for.
They are selling a mattress and some bedding this is typical of a private seller as a business would tend to sell one or the other.
The name is not one a business would pick as it looks like is a brand name.0 -
I contacted the seller and asked how come they have so many new items of bedding for sale.
i asked them to confirm that it was all new. (i acted as though i was going to bid) . The response i got back was that they own a B+B and that it was no longer open as a B+B and so they were selling all the unused bedding off......They also say that their user name on ebay is/was the name of the B+B
Well you have to applaud them for a good story, not plausible of course, but a clever yarn.
All those items, all different..how odd. Some goose feather, some duck down all sizes all sorts and with many sold previously. All stock photos, hmm.
Anyway, it merely shows they are a business selling off business stock. so possibly not the best story ever.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. They'll probably be on here soon complaining of a 21 day hold by Paypal.
As far as tax and returns go as others have pointed out declaring as a business on Ebay doesn't make much difference for either. Also the DSRs for businesses don't apply to auctions which these are.
Chances are Soolin is correct that they aren't saving anything by listing as a private seller, it will probably end up costing them more in fees..0 -
If that is true, unfortunately for them they are selling off assets and therefore they will owe tax on the sale anyway. As that is also business trading, then everything previously mentioned still applies to them.I contacted the seller and asked how come they have so many new items of bedding for sale.

No it does not. Their final accounts for the closed business will have to include the disposal or otherwise of assets. If stock or goods are retained for future use they would have paid the correct amount of tax. They still have three months to inform HMRC of a new business.
Give it up, and go back to the studies.0 -
I think the story is plausible.0

Funny, the exact same items have been available on a certain well-known surplus stock site just recently...but of course I'm sure they didn't buy them from there (Was eyeing up the memory foam toppers myself but decided against). They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

One thing they are avoiding by being a private seller is that their contact details aren't available for anyone to see.0 -
I suspect that one of the following applies:
- They have bought a pallet load of surplus stock, at a low price.
- They are seconds that they have managed to obtain very cheap.
- They are stolen either individually from a place of work, or part of a stolen shipment.
