Unless you are a burglar, why would you want full details without making a purchase?

I thought that was obvious. If you have full details then you can check them out before purchasing. There are many sellers on ebay who use false addresses, and only give out mobile numbers. You should never pay out a lot of money to any seller who either hides their address, or gives a false one. And only buy from a seller who is happy to give out a land line number (and test it).

The other reason to not openly display their details is to hide from the Tax man. Now I know that after selling only 8 items the tax man isn't going to be too interested. But if they start selling large volumes, then they would be.

On reflection, I think the story is valid - it may well be they don't realise that they are still selling off assets and therefore the income from the sale is taxable. Ignorance is no excuse, but it's plausible to assume they genuinely didn't know. It won't matter, but never mind.

The problem is that if they now have a PAYE job, their personal allowance will have been used up by that and they should really be calculating the tax owed on the bedding for their self-assessment form.

It is a very unlikely story. How many people would go out and spend an absolute fortune on bedding for a struggling B&B, and then never use it?

His name on ebay was "cosynights" or something along those lines , wasnt it ? He did say in his email that the name of the B+B was the same as his ebay username..............

Yes they did. And a search on both google and yell.com doesn't come up with any B&B called cosynights in Manchester. So when you consider that on some of the listings they say that they purchsed the items 3 months ago. Then that would obviously be bore they ceased trading. And there would still be some trace of them on the net.

Well it's obviously neither of them.

Unfortunately the above are only limited companies, but most small B&B's wouldn't be limited.

That's assuming that they are selling the assets for more than they paid, they might be making a loss.

IN which case they would be even more foolish as if they made a genuine loss they could offset against appropriate business profits.

I still think it is just someone who thinks they are very clever coming up with dodgy scenarios to avoid being a business seller on ebay.

After what Tim said I agree with Soo.

And any sale of assets is still a business sale, regardless of whether you are making a profit or a loss. It doesn't matter if you are even eligible for tax - you still have to abide by various consumer regs and declare them as a business sale anyway.
