An awful lot of unwanted bedding

I'd be more concerned they're selling a pillow for a baby. Since when was it advised to give pillows to babies????Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Tim_Deegan wrote: »I thought that was obvious. If you have full details then you can check them out before purchasing. There are many sellers on ebay who use false addresses, and only give out mobile numbers. You should never pay out a lot of money to any seller who either hides their address, or gives a false one. And only buy from a seller who is happy to give out a land line number (and test it).
The other reason to not openly display their details is to hide from the Tax man. Now I know that after selling only 8 items the tax man isn't going to be too interested. But if they start selling large volumes, then they would be.
You would do all that for bedding?????
Have to tell you, I've been trading for some time and only have a mobile number on ebay. Full address given however.
As to "hiding from the tax man", do you think it's that simple?0 -
Just to sum up. This seller is a con man, tax avoider, working full time and running a business, now a babykiller?0

That's how it works. They attract buyers with cheap prices, and some !!!! and bull story. They know that human nature means that people ask less questions if they are getting a good deal.
If you want to increase your sales on ebay, then display your land line clearly in all listings, then more people will trust you as a seller.
As for hiding from the tax man, then yes this is a possibility. Many people start off as private sellers. They buy a pallet of surplus stock, make a profit, and so then buy two the next time. So at what point does just earning a bit of pocket money become a business with income that should be declared in a tax return?0 -

They are all possibilities (apart from the baby killer bit). It may just be people being paranoid. But if the seller was honest in the first place, and didn't make up stories, then it wouldn't ring alarm bells would it?0 -
There are no alarm bells for the buyer. They have sold and got feedback.
Ta for the advice on increasing sales. But I think it's tosh.
Anyone running a business on ebay is not automatically picked up by the tax office, how many people do you think work there?
The point at which you declare income in your tax return is at the end of the tax year, so they have plenty of time for that.
All this seller is doing is hiding the fact they are a business. As has been pointed out, stupid as they could be better off.0 -
Well I would've bought a couple of pillows and a quilt quite happily, seemed a bargain. Unfortunately the seller never got back to me about combined shipping.

It's not difficult to build up fake feedback, scammers do it all the time.
So when all the consumer associations, BBC watchdog, the police, trading standards and many other people tell us never to trust a trader who only gives a mobile number, you think they are all talking tosh do you?
They will only be required to fill in a tax return if they declare that they are earning other incomes.
The main problem with this seller is that they have lied from the start, and so how can you trust them?0 -
Yes, I think they are talking tosh. The only number I have for my plumber is a mobile. He has done £8,000 worth of work for me over the last three years. Why did I book him? Real life "feedback". He was highly recommended by a few of my neighbours. Bit more serious than buying a duvet.0

I am a business seller on Ebay, and only have my mobile number listed, and my business is my retail address and not my home address.
There is no way I would want my landline and home address available to anyone who looks at my listings. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever
