We also spend around £50 a month on take-aways so that makes the total a bit more like you guys.

We're quite strict with breakfast and lunch and try and keep that healthy too - we have a boiled egg each for breakfast (good for being lazy as you can do them before and put them in the fridge) and home-made soup for lunch.

That means most of the money can go on dinners. We try and never throw anything away and I won't buy any ready done jars of sauces etc and it's so much cheaper to make them from scratch.

Looking on the OS board they put me to shame - a family of 4 for less than £100 a month!

Been soooo busy today - bored of working now! :D

just £2 to the o/d today whilst I'm waiting for money to move around :)

  • Hi beccie, nice diary. It sounds like you have a good approach to sorting things out - I'm subscribed so I'll follow with interest!

    Good luck

It has been an eye opener here - I thought I was quite a sensible shopper before :-)

I dont really have much time to make proper home made food but do what I can when I'm home. So last night, despite being shattered from being out dancing til 5am (on a Monday? am I mental???) I got in, cooked some pasta and had a nice little bowl of comfort food snuggled on the sofa with daughter. and to be honest, it was much nicer than had I got yet another take away...

Hi Diz, nice to have you along!

EB, it's worth practising a few pasta sauces - it took a few times of doing them but I know can make one in the time it takes for the pasta to boil so definitely no excuse for using a jar! :D

Been a long time since I've been out till five in the morning - think it was August when I met up with Africa people in London...I must be getting old :o

Yes, the dancing thing is a bad habit I really ought to grow out of - I'm at serious risk of being the oldest swinger in town  But I was at my desk bright as a button at 8.45 yesterday morning - had clients and court hearings all day and felt fine til about 6pm when I really flagged - that said, some of the young uns were flagging from 9am!
