Will this be better than the wii? Or will it sit gathering dust?

It is certainly better than the Wii IMHO, so your Wii may end up gathering dust instead. In fact, I can see eBay being flooded with Wii consoles very soon.

The fact you don't need any controllers as such is a leap forward, as is the auto login thru facial recognition.

Takes a bit of setting up/calibration to start with (especially if there's a few of ya), but after the initial setup process that should be it. Although, I think it's recommended you go thru the calibration proceess at various times of day (for the different light levels).

Also make sure you have enough space (may need to move your furniture outta the way).

I know I stated I wasn't overly impressed with it in an earlier post, but that was just because I prefer old style control methods.

This is a very well executed bit kit as far as I can tell and those who like the way of the Wii will love Kinect,I'm sure.
  • We have just bought it, the last one from argos locally. I found it in Middlesbroughs sainsburys too .... £129.99 or £149.99 with a game, sonic, the workout one and another, im not sure which one!. Might help if someone has nectar x
  • Deciding if you should get this or not comes down to the type of games you Luke to play. If you only really play shooters such as call of duty then it will probably gather dust as Kinect will never really work with them.

However if you play different types of games then its with it. Forza, for example, are going to release a patch so that it will track your head so you can look into the corners etc, the new harry potter has a separate section that uses it.

Over the next year I can see a lot of games integrating it as well as the normal sports, dancing, fitness type games.

I ordered one of these last week with Next, with a 5-6 week wait for dispatch, which was fine as I didn't need it till Christmas, having realised today that I never received an order confirmation I phoned to checked my order only to find out that it wasn't due for dispatch until 25th January, I cancelled the order in the end, turns out if I had ordered the bundle (console and Kinect) I would have it within a week.

Ill just buy it in a few weeks when I have the cash, fingers crossed it will be in stock.

Try site VERY and get £25 off with code ZZ629 - worked for me. Mine's due 8th December.
  • What is that code for? Is is for certain members by post, email, or some sort of offer? Normally we're all wary of their codes. Otherwise £25 off is great.

I ended up getting one from Argos last night, with a free £10 voucher, which I used towards the cost of 3 months Gold Membership.

How's that going to work though?
Surely if you turn your head to look into a mirror or window, you're not looking at the screen, which makes that whole add-on pointless.

Unless you have lots of space, sports games will be pointless with this functionality.
I'd like to see something like Madden NFL incorporate it, as if you were the quarterback or something. Again though, unless you have 5 ft to step back into, along with plenty of sideways room, it won't have the correct effect.

Much as I admire the technology, it's not suited to the modern day house......

I am thoroughly disgruntled with argos customer support , my wife had day off work unpaid to wait in for delivery argos told us 10/11/10 between 7am and 6pm... 5pm rolled round and no sign so my wife rang up and was told up to 8pm due to demand on deliveries but it was definitely on its way to us and was on the van coming out to us from leeds ( 10 miles from my house) got to 7:30 pm and still no sign of it so i rang them back and was told its definitely on van and will be with you by 9 courier has it but is taking some time to deliver due to amount of preorders, i queried her over this as i could have walked from the depot on my hands in time it had taken so far, she was insistent it will definitely be with y ou by 9 so i asked what recourse i had if it wasnt and she said none because it will be there, 9pm came and went then 930 then 10pm at which point my daughter whod sat next to window like a guard dog all evening gave up and went to bed in tears, if the item wasnt available i could have lived with that if they said ohh im afraid it will be tomorrow or even friday but to lie 3 times that its on a van on its way to us and for my wife to lose out financially, my daughter be embarassed in front of her friends who were all sat waiting like idiots for it to come so they could all play on ity together, is beyond a joke i have emailed argos customer support am going to find out the email address of their head of customer support and email them and make sure all and sundry know that argos basically in this case have broken both a written in the case of my month old receipt and verbal ( 3 phone calls to people who all insisted it was on its way to us) in most shameful and brazen way
I pre-ordered Just Dance 2 for the Wii. Suppose to be delivered 15th October. I am still waiting for it even though i have been in touch with them 6 times and each time they say it will be with me by the end of the week. I got charged for it on my argos account a month ago now, yet still have not got it. I will never order anything from them again. They don't even say sorry. Then they always blame HDN which is not true because i know people who work for Hdn. Everything that come's in to be delivered that day, does go out that day. So don't believe them when they blame the courier, it's not true they are just passing the buck and making them look bad.
