I have a sky box and dish but using that as free view, I think you can get more channels with free view, is there any way of plugging in the sky Ariel to my free view box or an I just clutching ay straws

    No.
Freeview will not work from a Sky system, only Freesat or Sky's subscription services.will work

Sky doesn't have any aerials- it is a satellite system using a minidish.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    OK one more time...
There is no such thing as a 'digital aerial'.
You do not have a Sky 'aerial'. You have a Sky dish.
Sky is a satellite system received from a satellite dish.
Freeview is a terrestial system received from a rooftop aerial.
They are both digital-but entirely different systems.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    TV without a subscription:

Just channels 1,2,3,4,5 = terrestrial - analogue, aerial - NOT HD

Freeview = terrestrial, digital, aerial - HD is possible in some parts of country with a FreeviewHD box

Freesat - satellite, digital, Sky dish - HD is possible in some parts of country with a FreeSatHD box

Freesat from Sky = satellite, digital, Sky dish - HD available if you have a SkyHD box, but no recording (but you can subscibe £10 per month to record)

Bad idea to just grab an indoor aerial and set up, you could pick up 50 channels when you're meant to get 80+. As has been said, depends on your house and transmitter, and location of aerial, and loads of other stuff. Try before you buy!

Out of curiosity, what parts of the country that have a view of the satellite cannot access the HD channels providing they have an HD receiver?

I think that was a copy & paste error, as you are aware HD via freesat does not vary by geographical area within the UK.

Thanks you two. Yes it was a copy and paste error, but I'll cover myself and say that you won't be able to get it if you have trees or buildings blocking your dish ;-)
  • My ex bought an aerial from Argos and put it in the loft and it worked perfectly for freeview. It was a roof aerial, but he wedged it up in the loft on an old coat stand, juggled a bit while I was downstairs tuning the freeview box and it worked fine. The aerial was about £15
