I have used them in hot water to clean the yucky greasy tiles around the cooker. I was amazed how easy it was compared to using scourers etc.
Also for washing the kitchen floor and to eke out the washing powder.

I keep reading this thread title and thinking it's about that children's programme from the 70s Crystal tips and Alastair :rotfl:

I've just poured a load of soda crystals down my sink with a kettle of boiling water because there was a horrible smell. Turns out it was the colander of broccoli on the windowsill :rotfl:

    that made me laugh lol

Does anyone know where i can buy a large bag of soda crystals please?

Thanks to this site i cut down on washing powder and use a small scoop of SC in with the WP and use vinegar instead of softener and my washing machine is cleaner for it but the average size soda isn't big enough, any ideas for the bigger bags.
    Thanks

    Hi rigsby,

I buy a 1kg bag in tesco for 56p. I haven't seen them in larger quantities but you could try contacting Dri-pak (who claim to be the only manufacturer of soda crystals in the UK) to see if they sell bigger bags.

Dri-Pak is the only seller of soda crystals and they are manufactured in Manchester (actually by their sister company East Lancs Chemical Co). You can buy 10kg or 25kg bags but they are really intended for agricultural and industrial customers. You could try a janitorial supplies company - but I don't know if they sell to individuals.

You may want to call Dri-Pak on (0115) 9325165. They also sell white vinegar, borax and bicarb - all of which can be used in the washing machine and dishwasher eg use vinegar as a rinse aid and a mix of bicarb and borax instead of detergent/tablets.

As they are a family run company, they're quite flexible about what they sell, so it may be worth your while to buy a bundle of stuff. The site has lots of useful tips eg http://www.dri-pak.co.uk/cleaningtasks/laundry.html
