I take a list, but have a separate purse for 'Bargains' 3 for 2 BOGOF's etc, for things I use all the time. I buy as much as I can of the offer. I pay the money back to the purse for the things I've used at the price I got it for. I've been doing this for about 30 yrs, this purse is 'NEVER' empty, as its used like a bank, once a week I go shopping at my 'own store' take what I need and pay the purse for the shopping. I started off with £10 in it , and have had as much as £1,000 in it (to start with I bought different things every week until I had a good stock,) .
When I have a lot in it I use it for luxuries, or something I need or would like ( like a grabbit), a wee reward for being thrifty. (I don't pay this back to the purse).
I used to just do it with groceries, household goods, but since joining this site I do it with 'EVERYTHING', toiletries , gifts, you name it I've probably got it. The good thing about it if one of my daughters needs something they come to me, one is a student the other is on Maternity leave , both of them are skint.
I thought I was good at managing my money until I joined this site, I used to shop willy nilly and stumble upon the bargains , now I'm much more focused, I GO where the bargains are, buying only them and leaving the store.
I've learned a lot spent a lot and saved thousands since joining. Before I buy ANYTHING I look here, and if I see anything on my 'LIST' that either me or any family members are looking for I swoop, paying for it from 'THE PURSE'.

I have a free shopping list app on my iPhone too, I use the notes app to plan my meals for the week before I go shopping, and then the shopping list app to list all the ingredients I need to make sure I don't forget anything. Have now cut my food shopping bill to around £20 every ten days or so, which includes all my three meals for the day.0

I have always used a list, in my little asda notebook.
We have a asda open across the road from us about a year ago, but I avoid it during the week as I spend far too much, I use the smaller shops in our town centre.
I only use the asda for our big weekly shop.0 -
i always try and take a list but do get tempted to buy other bits and bobs....i must try harderonwards and upwards0

When we're "being good" i.e. saving hard for something such as an upcoming holiday, I meal plan and write shopping lists - it's one of the best ways to save sizeable chunks of money for us.
enjoy your lists.:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I always end up leading my mum astray and make her buy stuff she doesn't need. She does a good job of it herself though, sometimes she'll go to the shop for just a paper and comhe out with two bags full of stuff. Generally it's offers on crumpets or something random ^-^Savings £8,865.22 £/15,000 Aiming to save enough for a house deposit.0

I always take a list and a pen to cross off what I've picked up already. Otherwise, unless you write the items on your list in the order they appear round the shop I miss things. Oops! I think I look like a geek crossing stuff off but I don't care! I've lost count of the amount of times I've gone for a particular thing and come home with tins of other stuff but not what I originally wanted. *Rolls eyes at self*
Oh yes, and we have a chalk board in the kitchen that's a work-in-progress list. When you finish something or you notice it's almost finished, you write it on the board.0 -
