I took a shopping list to the supermarket today...

... and for the first time, I came away with exactly what was on the list. Apart from the cakes and two bars of chocolate that fell into the basket, but hey it's better than I usually am
I did look like a massive geek though, as my shopping list was on the iPhone but it was a free app, so it's okay

lol I know what you mean...I always take a list, but if I TRULY want to get ONLY what's on my list, then I send hubby to do the shopping.
He can stay very focused, unlike yours truly.

The cakes fell into the basket when the OH was holding the basket, so not entirely sure that idea would work with mine0

I have tried to start doing this too, I look what I already have in my cupboard and work out what I need to get to use those things up. By taking my list with me and only buying what I 'need' has saved me a fortune!
Keep up the good work!

Well done chums,I make a list by the kettle and only put on there what I have run out of, and take just enough cash to cover it so I won't get tempted. Its so easy walking around to think 'Oh I just have that ,or that looks good' .If I have a list and its normally a fairly short one I think 'if I can get around in under 15 minutes then I can have a treat of something when I get home' This week I have been very stern with myself as I have a trip to Lille coming up soon and I want to be able to have a splurge in the supermaret with some nice french cheese's By buying literally only what was needed this week I have spent only £5.70 the rest of my food I dug out of the freezer and cupboard.
I know I can't do this every week but now and again it does your purse good to have a bit of a rest:):)

Cash only at the supermarket means you have to be aware of the prices.
Enjoy Lille Jackie O - a lovely place." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I couldn't imagine doing a weekly shop without a list, on top of the money saving if I didn't have a list I'd be wandering around not sure what to buy....I'd probably be there for days!0

I start my new list shortly after I get back from shopping
Stick it to the fridge and add things as I see that we need them

I use a list. I work out my dinners & make sure I get the ingredients. I get little enough "day" left at the end of my working day without having to detour to the shops (& they are always packed at that time:mad:).
I do buy extras, my list is to cover the minimum.0 -

That definitely wouldn't work with my OH. The easiest way to spend twice as much as I should is to let my OH loose in a supermarket. He once went to buy a chicken and spent over £30, mostly on junk we didn't need.0
