Can i claim???
I wear overhauls which the company washes for us, but they also supply us with polo shirts which we wear underneath our overhauls which we wash ourselves, they have the company logo on them, so would i be able to claim???Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I know the last few pages of this thread had probably been people asking "I work for 'X', can I do 'Y'?" but I've tried reading as much as I can (about 10 pages before I realised how long it all got).
I work for Domino's Pizza, apron, t-shirt and trousers are expected to be kept to a good standard for the obvious point of view hygiene. I know Domino's is a franchise and as has been mentioned it may have passed the franchisee by that they need to sort this out.
So I'm wondering; Domino's don't supply wash facilities and I suppose it's bound to be classed as 'food industry' which apparently means £45 for 2004-2005 & 2007-2008 (2006 didnt' seem to get mentioned) and £60 for 2008-2009 onwards.
I worked there from 09/11/06 to 30/03/08 and have worked there again since 01/02/09 - I just wonder what tax years do I fall into?
Will the HMRC figure this out on my behalf or are my chances of success unlikely?
I've just been told that they owe me a large rebate due to switching jobs and being overtaxed so I wanted to see if there was anything more I'd be due.
Any help is greatly appreciated because I think I'm confusing myself about a lot of it!! :<[strike]Debt: £0.00[/strike]

The first thing to do is to look at the fixed rate expense allowance chart on the HMRC website. This gives fixed rate expense allowances agreed for certain trades or jobs. Therefore Rustvaar who works for Dominos is working in the food industry and needs to contact his tax office and ask for the relevent allowance in his code and for previous years if applicable. (06-07 and 07-08 in your case).
poolielad - first look and see if your job or trade is in the list and claim based on that.
If your job or trade is not in the list then you need to make an individual claim to your tax office for a reasonable sum for washing your uniform.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
So I am a postman in Glasgow, What would I write, and who would I write to
Any help would be much appreciated0 -
I imagine your tax affairs are dealt with at Centre 1, but your tax reference will be on your P60. You can look up the address of the tax office on the HMRC website. When I worked in Cambridge, there was a locally agreed allowance for postmen and I would be surprised if there wasn't one for Glasgow posties as well. Try asking your union rep.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0
