Moving threads to DT

Thanks Aliasojo, I didn't realise that it was Martin's decision, I assumed that board guides would have a fair amount of discretion but perhaps that was naieve of me.

Does anyone know how we can bring this to the attention of the powers that be? Threads have been started here many times but the issue hasn't been addressed, I've reported threads that have been moved when they're inappropriate for DT, but I don't know what else can be done?

It does seem to be an odd rule - if followed to the letter then any recipe threads from OS should be in the Arms, the DFW chat threads and support groups should be in the Arms, anything to do with car reviews should be in the Arms, anything to do with hospital appointments etc should be in the Arms not D&D..... I know it must be a really tough job to decide where to draw the line, but I think that as well as asking 'is it moneysaving' the question 'does it belong in DT' should be asked.

Something else I've never understood is why there's only one bg in the Arms, when it's bound to have more issues (esp DT) than other forums. It seems a big responsibility and burden for just one person. I understand the problem of resources, but as BG's aren't paid then I don't see the problem with having more than one. Even if it's just to take some of the heat off Glad when she (?) has to make these decisions.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I think Glad herself should be well aware of the strong feeling on this and should be flagging it up. And as a volunteer, she could just be neglectful.

Otherwise, I suppose it comes down to reminders to posters on sensitive subject like Teenage Rape to post at the end something like "and is there any way I can use my Tesco Vouchers?". I hope that sense prevails before it comes to thta.

You don't remember the big hoo ha a while back about threads getting moved from OS then? :D

I think the OS has special dispensation. ;) Martin's site, Martin's rules.

To be fair, you dont know that she hasn't.

I always start my threads in the Families board knowing fine that technically they shouldn't be there. I used to always add at the bottom of my post 'does anywhere know where I can buy a book on this subject'. :D

Eventually Savvy Sue I think it was, who had the bad luck to have to move them to the Arms or DT, told me to join the library as she was concerned about the amount of books I was buying. ;)

    Extremely unfair comment.

The board guides have no choice in this. It's Martin's say so that this is done. I've never agreed with it and raised this time and time before (when I was a board guide also) but to no avail, Martin insists that topics that have no financial link to them, be moved to DT or the Arms. (Although I can't explain the pregnancy ones staying there admittedly.)

I feel damned sorry for Glad right now, she's getting stick right, left and centre about this and it's not right, get on Martin's back....this is HIS decision. And to be fair, I think Glad does what she can with regards to leaving threads, at least for a while.

I agree it's a ridiculous policy. No point in moaning about the board guide who does the moving though, go to the policy maker and ask for change. I'd be happy to add my voice too. DT and the Arms is no place for this type of thread.

It was supposed to be. You'd have to be pretty hard to put a rape thread into discussion time, in my very humble opinion.....

So why aren't all the other non-money saving threads moved there then?

The numerous pregnancy, miscarriage, trying for a baby - yada yada yada threads moved for a good old discussion?

They choose to leave some and move others....with goodness only knows what rationale.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

    I honestly can't answer that.

I do wish Martin would just allow a sub board on the families board then the problem would be sorted. Money related family stuff/non money related family stuff. It just seems so simple.

To elaborate on SN's comments, some threads have been moved today, but the following have been left where they are:

    Baby Sitting?
How to make a cucumber outfit
Arguments how to deal with them?
    Support for miscarriage/ ASD/ parents/ pregnancy etc

    Gone ... or have I?

if that was Martin's decision then it makes him look heartless imho.

Hmmm...20 posts so far and mine's the one that is currently conspicuous by the absence of any thanks :o

Oh well, that probably explains all the other posts and mutual backslapping.
How on earth is a thread discussing rape related to moneysaving?
If people would bother to read and digest the comments I post, then all will become apparent to them, and why the thread was moved to Discussion Time.

(but at least 11 currently appear to think it's a good rule)
