Moving threads to DT

I know this keeps coming up, but I think it's important.

Tonight there's been two threads moved to DT. In both cases the OP was looking for advice and support with a sensitive problem. In the first one, the replies were helpful and supportive - until it was moved, when they became judgemental and unhelpful. The second's only just been moved, so I don't know how that will pan out.

Why are these threads being moved? They weren't about discussion, they were about solving a particular problem.

All that happens is that the OP doesn't get the info they need, and DT gets clogged up with personal problems when it's supposed to be for serious debate.

I know that this has been done to death, but lately there seems to be more and more bizarre decisions being made in regard to moving threads.

If a thread has been moved, it's probably a board guide who has done so.

They usually post a standard comment as well as leaving a temporary pointer on the original board (but may not always)

Here is the usual comment left:
    MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

I totally agree. I frequently see threads that are posted in a relevant area in relation to their problem they are getting good and helpful replies. They hang around for ages then are suddenly moved to DT they either drop off the board quickly and get no more replies as the people who know about those sort of problems don't go into DT or they are then get unhelpful and jugemental replies.

Some of the decisions made are just bizzare. It's not as if it's a one off this frequently happens but more on certain boards. We all know tyhe official reply but it frequently makes little sense.
  • I think the board guides who move stuff to DT have no idea what it's like there. Perhaps any decisions to move stuff to DT should be given the OK by the DT board guides.

  • How exactly is 'teenage rape' more suited to Discussion Time [yes, lets all discuss teenage rape, shall we]; whereas the absolutely ridiculous amounts of parenting, trying for a baby threads all are left on the families board?

    Total madness.

Thank you SN, I actually came back here to post about that very thread being moved! I've just reported it to abuse, but why on earth was it moved.

If the board guides have ever ventured into DT then they know that it's for robust discussion, debate and argument - and is not the place for sensitive questions about personal problems.

Given the three threads that have been moved in the last 24 hours I'd be tempted to think a board guide's account has been hacked, I just can't see any logic behind it at all.

I wholly agree, and SN has summed it up perfectly, but the BG that is moving the threads is also the DT BG! This has gone on for a long time, and I contacted Abuse about it when I was personally affected by such a move, but clearly nothing was done. :o
    Gone ... or have I?

Perhaps the board guide has some sort of sadistic viewpoint that teenage rape should be a topic for an in-depth discussion.

Perhaps we could go one step further and have a poll?

And now we have a 'discussion' about how GCSE papers are tiered and graded.

What is there to discuss there? It's a set of facts and rules, linked to a particular problem.

  • Yes, the discussion is certainly helping the OP with it's thoughtful and incisive comments.

    Extremely unfair comment.

The board guides have no choice in this. It's Martin's say so that this is done. I've never agreed with it and raised this time and time before (when I was a board guide also) but to no avail, Martin insists that topics that have no financial link to them, be moved to DT or the Arms. (Although I can't explain the pregnancy ones staying there admittedly.)

I feel damned sorry for Glad right now, she's getting stick right, left and centre about this and it's not right, get on Martin's back....this is HIS decision. And to be fair, I think Glad does what she can with regards to leaving threads, at least for a while.

I agree it's a ridiculous policy. No point in moaning about the board guide who does the moving though, go to the policy maker and ask for change. I'd be happy to add my voice too. DT and the Arms is no place for this type of thread.
