Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Thank you I have just done this so will keep you posted.

Sad to say that even this doesn't always work. My first email to him at this address was ignored; my second was replied to by some lackey in their correspondence department after 3 days; I haven't had a reply to the third but then I only sent it 5 days ago so plenty of time yet...

Talktalk really are the most useless bunch of under-achieving, demoralised, demotivated incompetents I've ever had the misfortune to deal with - and in my professional and personal life I've dealt with BT, NTL and their ilk.

They certainly aren't scared by the threat of the Telecommunications Ombudsman - I knew I should have threathened the small claims court instead in my latest email.

I won't bore you with the full details (I've ranted at length at http://forums.ntlhell.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=78940) but to cut a long story short I ordered the full package at launch on 18 April. I still haven't got broadband. They have been promising that someone will phone for 6 weeks now but of course no-one does; ok, apart from the person who phoned on the wrong day, at the wrong time, and on the wrong number, and was surprised that I wasn't around...

There's a lot of information on this and similar sites about taking these con-merchants to the small-claims court. Grateful thanks to those who have already contributed details about this - I'll be studying these and anything that anyone else can add very closely ...

    Hi tinytot143

    TALKTALK

You have my sympathy this may not help you. However, the following is my experience.
Joined TalkTalk May 2006 everything went fine, landline connected OK, MODEM with instructions came as promised in September and apart from two problems at start up every thing was fine until on the 6th September I received a letter saying that they would go for upgrade to 8Mbps on the 19th September and my line would be out for 20 mins for outgoing calls, 4 hours for incoming calls and 20 mins for Broadband. The facts are that my line was out for 48hrs due to TT forgetting to plug me back in. This cost me a very expensive mobile call. However my Broadband was out of commission for 48 Days. In that time I wrote 3 letters to Warrington (as stated in the terms & conditions) I also copied them to Portal Way London I have yet to receive any replies. I received 6 text messages & sent 2 replies, sent 3 emails through https://www.talktalk.co.uk/contactus one of which was to Charles Dunstone I am still looking for replies. I made 17 phone calls received 11 and there was 5 will call you back not replied to.

The people that I spoke to were fine the problem is that they are incapable of managing their business taking into account of the volume. Dunstone tells us that he didn’t realise the amount of interest that his offer would generate. Please Charles get into the real world.

You can contact the Broadband upgrade team free on 08700873527 – yes it is free from your registered land line. The “Team” will report your problem to OPAL the line company that they took over. OPAL have 48 hrs to respond which they don’t
You phone back and so the cycle continues. You cannot get any help from any senior staff member all they do is report to OPAL. The best advice that I had was “You will have to sit and wait Sir.” The end result is that they have now reduced the connection speed down to 7.2Mbps and everything is now fine – touch wood
Total time from disconnection for “UPGRADE” to service 60Days – regards MOUSETRAP
  • I am still waiting for a reply and I can safely say that bet I don't have a phone call waiting for me whenm I get home and I bet its still not working.
Worst thing is I do online studying and with out my broadband I am losing time to do it!!!!!!!!

    Will keep you all posted.

Have just been upgraded to full 8 meg and having no end of problems connecting and staying connected!! Been with them for 18 months now and everything fine till they changed the exchange. Only other problem is getting thro to talk with someone. 48 hours on still waiting for call back from help desk.
Hi glenboy - I had similar problems. You get through to "Broadband upgrade team" on 08700873527 yes it is a free call although the waiting time is anything from 20mins to 60mins first establish that you are talking to the BB upgrade team. The 48hrs is the statutory time that OPAL (Their Line company) has to reply to the BB team - Dont't hold your breath cos they don't reply, just phone back again after 48hrs. I had 60days disconnection before it was sorted.Just make yourself a nuisence. I was told very early on that "we may have to reduce your connection speed" It was only in the last few days that my connection has become stable at 7.0Mbps - Good Lock
