My Great pal is dead now. My dad always worked and became ill this year with health problem around january and ended up bed ridden and in severe pain about 6months months ago. It hurts to say my dad even wanted to work when he was ill. He always worked and my mum who is unable to work nowadays too were getting hardly any money so had to put in for disable money and eventually got it about 3/4months later and got a little lump some. They were getting about £100 a week more with the disabled money. They only got a few payments more cos he died in hospital last week.
My mum has been told she will only get Incompacity each week since she cant work anymore and will get around £70 a week. They said she cant get Widows pension as thats less than what she gets a week and she cant get both benefits. My dad was only 58 and my mum is 51.
I live with my mum and work for minium wage and have said ill try my best to help every week but the £70 a week is not alot. Me and my mum live in a normal 3bedroom house but weve bin told we might even hav to go looking for a smaller house if we cant afford even just our 3bedroom house. We dont want to leave the house weve had all this time.
The guy at the welfare place even admited to my mum that its not right how the system works and that theres people who have never worked get more a week but thats all shes entitled too. Anybody know what we can do? Thank you.

I'm so sorry about your Dad. It 's hard enough for you and your Mum without having to worry about the money side of things at this time. I can't offer any advice other than go the the Citizen's Advice office and get help. You've come to the right place. Someone on this site will be able to offer a better reply than mine. Hugs to you and your Mum." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I am sorry your loss, and your mum's loss. It must be a very difficult time for you.
With regard to maybe having to look for a smaller house, it might help if you said who you were renting from (I assume it is rented?) and whose name is on the tenancy agreement?
Have you applied for Council Tax Benefit and Housing Benefit? You would both have to declare your income but you might be able to get something back that way.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
My parents bought the house many years ago which sometimes they regreted since it cost alot and was all the money they had but i always said atleast ur not paying any rent now.
My mum has alot of bills and we know they will have to be paid eventually. We are getting away with just paying a small amount just now but have been told that they will be wanting all their money 1day. What worrys me is that when the time comes to move out i wont be able to help with bills as i would have to pay for my own place.0 -
Just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about your Dad and I think that you are a very caring son. I hope that you and your Mum get good advice at the CAB. Have a look at http://www.entitledto.com/ to see if there are any benefits you and your Mum might be entitled to. I can't really offer any special advice but I wanted to send you and your Mum ((hugs)) and I hope that you will find some help soon. Look after yourselves. You - only you- will have stars that can laugh :rotfl:

Not sure if it's still available but when I went to register my Mum's death (3yrs ago) I was given a form for my Dad to apply for help towards the funeral, think it was a one off Widow's Payment or something. Sadly Dad passed away only 10mths later but we weren't entitled to the payment again as it's only paid to spouses. Also if your Mum is on benefits she should be able to claim for a funeral grant?Panda on My Shoulder
If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it :rotfl:0 -
Just wanted to extend my condolences.
Have you contacted the council's benefits advisors? They are very good and will be able to get you to at least some sort of starting point.
You could alos look into getting a ldoger in to the spare bedroom to tide you voer.
good luck."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -
So sorry to hear your sad news. You need to go along to CAB and seek advice there - your mum can't be expected to live on £70, and not get any benefits etc....0
