And the £100 cheque can easily become £199 by the time it's cashed.0

I had often wondered why there have been quite a few wants on our local freecycle, for empty Wii boxes, television boxes, ect ect, until the owner of the site advised us not to answer these wants, and she had found out that the empty boxes were being used to con people that there was actually a television, computer, or Wii in the boxes. The people hand over there money for a load of tat.
The empty boxes are also used in fake insurance claims.
"No Mr insurance bod, I dont have any receipts for the 10 grands worth of electrical goods I am claiming for but I do have the boxes"0 -
A guy you don't know pulls up in a van and tries to flog you something! And your husband thinks this is going to end positively?! Thankfully, you've got the sense you were born with, sherlock, even if your OH doesn't.

Bless him, my OH is a very trusting man. He was once stopped by a beggar wanting money for nappies for her kids. He went to the local shop and came back with a huge pack of Pampers for her - much to her disgust! :rotfl:
And when the guy hanging around the train station gave him a story about being mugged and needing money for the train home, he offered to buy him the train ticket there and then and couldn't understand why the guy just wanted the money!
But that's why I love him, because he's honest, generous and trusting and thinks the best of everyone.0 -
Many years ago I bought a pair of massive sub woofer speakers out of the back of a van. Very similar story.
I paid cash and they were the best speakers I have ever had.:D0 -
There used to be a beggar at Waterloo station with a very sad-looking dog. I once bought him a sandwich and some food for the dog. He was most upset because as he put it "I don't like f***ing tuna." Charming!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0

You actually bought one? :eek::eek:
You have to be careful depending on where they come from. There are loads of cheap, low quality imports flooding the UK market from China. Many of these don't comply with European safety regulations, and some contain dangerous chemicals.0 -
They have been operating this week in the Spring Bank area of Hull. Never bought but know someone who did. their spiel mentioned bankrupt stock.Apparently they even were wearing a badge. They asked me if in needed one and momentarily i thought it was a freebie......,.
Got stopped by one of these this morning near to Holderness Rd. I'd read this thread so told him, and said that I knew it was a scam. The van was red and had a company name on it 'Sleep in Style - Suppliers of Quality Beds & Furniture'. Even had a business card which I took, just to see what details were on it. Nothing except the company name, various towns that they apparently trade in, and a mobile number for delivery. No address where you can go and choose what you want. I wonder why? :rotfl:There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0
